like a dummy, I used mine while fishing in salt water to cut bait. Couple of days later it became sluggish, developed small rust stains on the blade, and the action became sluggish. Upon opening I found that the spring was really looking rusty and realized it is IRON while rest of knife is stainless. I cleaned it up as you described and its now back to working perfectly albeit with a small stubborn rust stain on the blade that will serve as a reminder to use caution around salt water. Overall I love this EDC knife. THANKS for your video!

Spring flew out at me, as I forgot to extend the knife in order to relax the spring before opening.

Thanks for the video. Got mine cleaned and it's working again. I used plumbers key grease but after reading the comments I think it may be better to assemble it dry. If it gets sluggish again I'll take it back apart and do just that.

I had the same issue. I just sprayed WD-40 down inside and good as new. Didn't even need to take it apart!

I put mine back together dry because grease attracts grit.

Great tip on bending the tension bar out. Mine was barely opening and always had been-it came from the factory that way. I didn’t realize it was supposed to completely snap open until I bought my girlfriend one and it snapped open immediately. I cleaned mine and that didn’t fix anything, then I bent out the bar and it’s flicking open perfectly.

Tip: Kershaw has lifetime warranty so before you tear your knife apart it makes sense to have them ship you a new torsion bar since it's likely it's slightly worn out or in my case cracked.

Fyi greasing the spring is so it dosnt rattle around. Not so much to reduce friction. You should be using oil for the pivot, not grease as it attracts dirt.

I must have a newer model because mine doesn't have the speedsafe door.

I dropped mine in dirt not gonna lie I don’t feel comfortable taking it apart just covered it in oil

It really is a simple mechanism. I really suggest taking it apart and getting the dirt and grime out of it. It will work much smoother and last much longer this way. And of course there is the added bonus of having fun and learning how the knife works :)

@@ChrisAsipyan I dunno it wasn’t too bad and the oil should break down any dirt that’s still there

Yeah grease will gum up your knife quick. Just spray it down with gun cleaner or wd40 wipe it dry and put it back together. It will stay clean longer

No doubt it will work to improve the action. But in my case that would be super temporary. My work is super dusty. I use this thing for crazy messy work and have had to heat it up and soak it in alcohol to free it up at times. But it's my everyday and I abuse the hell out of it. And it just continues to amaze me.

@@scottmurphy3896 that would make sense... I guess it really depends on how you use it. I agree... this knife is pretty sweet, still my favorite knife for EDC out of all the others that I have. It's light, built well, it got a nice blade shape, etc... Lots of good things about it.

If you haven't yet, try removing the pocket clip. There will likely be another star screw under it that you can hold down while unscrewing from the other side.
