Today we need to do some work on my Dodge 12 valve Cummins truck. Electrical issues have me stumped. Plus, a little horsing around. Instagram / greatplainscraftsman

My neighbor has two rescued horses and is having problems with mud around his shelter like you had. I showed him what you did. He is now going to try that. Hang on to that diesel truck no matter how pissed it will make you. They don’t make them like they used to. I watched someone on KZfaq this week with a new one with 50,000 miles and is having all kinds of emissions problems with it. Again I enjoy watching your channel and learn a lot. The scenery is incredible also.

Thanks John. That'll solve his problem

Open the drivers door, on the side of the dashboard is another fuse box, BINGO maybe 🤗 . Get a heat gun for your shop use or an old hair dryer to use on the shrink tubes or wire splicers. Does your wire strippers have crimpers also? Those end pliers on strippers are not strong enough for a good crimp and wires will come out with to much moving. Good luck. Thanks for sharing with us, I like the challenge of finding wire breaks but don’t like the testing of the electronic components that have the hidden thingies 😩.

What I recommend is there’s a kit you can buy for under your hood relays take the power straight from the battery for your headlights and your switch and everything works in sane a little help yeah you’ll illuminate that problem I did that was my 91.5 Dodge give you three guesses what’s under the hood I’ll give you a hint this is six in a row jim

DEAR TIM, WHEN YOU SOLVE THE PROBLEM, IT ALWAYS MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD, TO KNOW YOU DIDN'T HAVE TO PART WITH A POCKET LOAD OF CASH TO A MECHANIC. ZIPPY'S EYE'S LOOK A BIT YUCKY!! HOPE HE'S OK! MICK FROM UK.

I know exactly how frustrated you feel! I have a 99 2nd gen 24v with 650 000kms and have replaced just about everything except the 5.9 motor. I still love my truck. I would love to have your 12v any day. love your channel

Looks like a well cared for truck, I love my 12 valve, especially when I see my friends spending over 60k on new trucks.

If the switch was burnt, there is probably a burnt wire(s) somewhere. If you have a multi-meter, use the probes to see if you are getting power to the switch first, usually a red or black wire.

Will do

First thing I thought was ground after the switch did not solve the problem. Wiring problems can be a pain in the butt. Been there done that and the only way to win is to not give up.

Should be some more fuses in the small panel at the end of the dash. Maybe blew one of those fuses with the burnt wires. Good luck.

Well at least it wasn't any screws left over lol good video Tim I have a Ford diesel lol lol. and boy did I have some issues with it the first few years after......after marketing nearly all the parts lol bulletproofing it, it's like a tank now. I can't help you much on that sort of thing just moral support. 😄

Once you check the other fuse box and all checks out, you may find your dealing with a ground issue. My F-250 Super Duty had similar issues and I found a ground wire from the trailer wiring harness had broken free from its frame mount and was causing my issues...... don’t know if it’s your issue but food for thought anyway.

Tim, have you seen those new wire butt connectors that have a drop of solder inside. When you apply the heat for the shrink wrap it melts the solder and makes the connection. I really need to get some. 👍

Fixing things on the place is a full time job. Gotta get tractor running before rain this evening. Rain has been winning lately. Remember never ask what else can go wrong because there is an answer you do not want to hear! Lol

Just a aftermarket knob. Previous owner put it on. It is!

Just a couple of questions. What year did you say the truck was? Does the horn work? Does it have a brake controller? What's the last mechanical work if any you did to the truck? Good luck. -Will
@GreatPlainsCraftsman4 жыл бұрын
Didn't check the horn, will do that. It is a '97. Yes it has an aftermarket brake controller. Come to think of it, that controller was acting funny when this happened. Hmmmm. Great song suggestions

Ya, when it comes to vehicle electronics, I take it to the mechanic, LOL...... I hate working on electrical, it's so frustrating. I don't mind working on the mechanical stuff though.

@totherarf4 жыл бұрын
.... or a relay! I would suggest using a 12 tester (basically a screwdriver like device with a lamp in it) That way you can check weather or not a circuit is live. You can test at plugs or carefully push the point through the insulation to see if the wire inside is live or not. There is also a hole in your fuse above each end enabling you to check the fuse is OK in situ!

Probably something to do with the computer some sensor that's not functioning it looks like you started something out in that configurationI don't know nothing about your vehicle so it sounds like it's not getting feedback from something it could be a ground wire check for corrosion anywhere
@KT-ki2nv4 жыл бұрын
Not mechanical myself but suggest you check all earth connections are ok? See www.cumminsforum.com/forum/98-5-02-non-powertrain/1233441-no-running-lights-dash-lights.html. A search on the web shows lots of people asking for forum help for the same issue.
