Sounds like the old saw needs a bit of oil (or grease).

I have a question; how long do I have to season my logs in order to be able to use this technique? I have maple . I will harvest them to fence my property which is 27 acres . Thank you

Some years back I use to wonder how in the heck telephone poles lasted so long compared to other types of wood. I mean some of them have been there for 50+ years. Then I watched this video and I remembered years ago one time I put my hand on a telephone pole that was newly erected and I remember my hand being sticky like it had oil or thin tar on it. Now it all makes sense, I always thought it was due to them being some kind of harder wood, but now I think they were using the exact same thing as you are. Funny thing, they government will tell you "you shouldn't put that oil on post, for the environment" all while doing exactly that when it comes to their own poles.

Could you explain the transition from the long boards to those cut at angle on gable end. Where exactly did u place your horizontal board? Seems that bottom bat should have been cut 2 inches shorter, so the horizontal board would cover the butt-joint of the vertical 10 inch boards or am I missing something? Did you use any flashing or anything around windows or anywhere? Great video -- getting ready to do my 30x44 barn w Cypress board & batten! Thanks

Finding post 8 inch diameter or bigger gets pricy. Pressure treated especially.

Even if I square the blade to the sole, my circular saw won’t cut 90 degrees. I can’t find mistakes in my technique, even using a speed square as a guide. I noticed that the sole bends when it is set at less than max depth, so any downward pressure will cause the blade to cut at an angle. What accuracy is reasonable to expect from a circular saw?

Did you all have to debark each log before assembly? Or were you able to let it shed on its own ? Love the work. 💪💪

Just finished watching all your timber framing (Barn) video's. Thanks for the effort you go to, both in filming and construction. Love the beam drill, I have a James Swan but can see why the Miller's Fall is a better built drill. Say hello to Charlie for me

How have those board and batons held up? I just bought a house with a historic two story coach house on the property that is beam and post with board and baton on the exterior. The previous owner did not maintain the building so their is a lot of leaking and water damage. I am debating taking the exterior off and waterproofing so I can insulate one day or just repairing the damage and using it as is.

Why are you fighting with nature? Horizontal boards will work with gravity to steer water away, vertical will allow gravity to drive water "in-between".

@GreatPlainsCraftsman. Hey Tim not trying to be nosey but how much did the Timbers cost you in total when you sourced them from your local sawmill. Trying to get a budget together for my own Timber Frame structure.

Simple. Practical. Functional. Some videos show guys using digital protractors (whatever that is), complicated math, Japanese pull saws and chisels to make exotic wood joints in order to make "museum quality" sawhorses. Most of us just want a guide to make a pair of utility grade sawhorses. This video fits the bill. Thanks for posting this! Cheers.

Thanks for the video. Once the mixture is cured, does it still increase flammability of the posts? Where I live, the next wildfire is a “when” not “if” situation, and as much as I’d like to treat my own posts, something about fuel-soaked wood doesn’t sit right 😅

I know this is an old video - hopefully the creator is still monitoring comments. The text and comments say 5deg splay on the legs but in the video, you can see the mitre angle was clearly set to 10deg at timepoint 1:56 just before the bevel was set to 15deg ... Is this some mathical effect of setting a compound saw I don't understand ? Which angle was actually used to build the horses in the video ?

If the blade and the notch on the shoe are not aligned, is there no way to adjust it? I've read through the manual but in nowhere it mentions it. I am using a Makita 7-1/4 saw.
