@@EricMorettin I just bought one a few weeks ago as a cheap guitar while I'm overseas. Build quality - for ~200CAD is excellent. However, I have this same grounding issue as well. The only other problem is a high 11th fret that I'll deal with when I get home. Like you said, if this is someone's first guitar it's a huge problem. For anyone with experience with guitars, it's nothing (considering the price).

@@RX120D It's been said before, but if Harley Benton fixes these issues from the factory, puts a bit more TLC into the guitar, and even charges a bit more for the guitars, these will be straight up winners out of the box.

I stopped watching videos about Harley Benton a while ago, Glenn probably had some interesting views on this brand though. I got bored with all the obviously sponsored videos, so it’s good to see when someone actually addresses some common issues with cheap guitars. Love the Washburn ❤ I’m dreaming of playing one of those one day 🤩

I think to be fair to Glen he has reviewed other HB's and loved them albeit they were at a higher price point - budget but not bargain. What I haven't seen yet is any response from Thomann.....

Great video! And, if you need supress level of the noise even lower, to level of EMGs, I recommend complete shielding of all cavities with electronics, including pickup cavities! You will be surprised, how clean can be these HBZs! Reason is, that EMGs including internal shielding of pickup’s case, but these HBZs are from plastic without any conductive layer inside. After shielding, noise level will decrease by big amount, even if you not touching the strings! Tested on my HB guitar SC-1000 with the same pickup set.

Thanks! Copper tape on the cavities definitely can go a long way, but changing the pickups on this would be my first real hardware mod. I've done that before and it's worked or left me with the same results as before.

Good idea for not wanting to throw parts at the guitar to fix the problem. It’s good to see you can do it with some time and elbow grease. I agree you shouldn’t have to. Fix this HB

That's the thing; you don't need to spend a fortune to get a guitar working properly. Just a bit of TLC and research go a long way.

Thanks man! If anything changes these pickups to EMGs since they don't need a ground wire to operate and that should help immensely

I would suggest puncturing the ground wire through the copper tape and let it connect on the top surface, reason being that some glues on the cheaper copper tapes aren't always as conductive -- they may work to some degree, but having the ground actually touch the copper may improve conductivity even more. (having a digital or analog multimeter is an easy way to check)

I believe they are aware of the issue now! Not sure what they're doing about it though.

So, Does the ground cable is always going to be connected to the bridge? Where do the ground cable starts?

Yes and it usually can be found going from the tone control into the body close to the bridge

Does anyone know if Squier/Fender necks are compatible with these guitars?

A lot of it depends on the neck pocket and if it will fit. No other way to figure that out than buying the guitar and trying for yourself.

@@EricMorettin yup it doesn’t lineup up with the body. There is a little gap on each side because the stock neck is wider than the Squier one I bought on eBay. I returned the neck. Put Jim Root EMGs and locking Grover tuners and the thing is true shred machine.

@@EricMorettin oddly enough ti didn’t have the grounding issue when it was stock. No hun or buzz at all. I think enough people complained and they fixed it. I just got the guitar last week .

People keep referring to these guitars as being "under $200", am i missing something or is there a way to purchase these without having to pay nearly $100 extra for shipping to the US?

Nope. I do miss pre pandemic when it was 35 bucks for 100 pounds, now UPS charges so much however, I know when I ordered a bunch of stuff it was still around the same 100 dollar shipping, so might as well get your monies worth and get extra cheaper stuff to go w/ the guitar.

Active pickups should not need a ground wire to the bridge, I have guitars with EMGs and they don't have any bridge ground wires

IMHO it seems like guitar builders usually go with chrome hardware in cases where black might LOOK better just because of issues like this. HMMMMM.

easiest fix.....just replace it with an ACTUAL hipshot bridge. Much better quality, much more weight, and they use conductive paint.

They test them on a clean channel at the factory.

@@hangman960 well, usually there isn't a need. Either the pickups are working, or they aren't. This paint being an issue is a rarity for sure.

Harley Benton don't have quality control.. you need to see what they sent me, a guitar with a neck pickup not working and a deep split in the neck.. send it back for a replacement, the replacement guitar they sent me needs one hell of a fret leveling job.. will not buy another HB guitar
