Part 1 of 3. Fixing this slopped out dozer blade. In this episode I disassemble the blade and make a few weld and machining repairs. Stay tuned for the next episode where I make the new pins and bushings.

You know things are getting serious, when you need an engine crane, to remove pieces off a machine. All those parts, must weigh a tonne. Top job, so far

Cool vid. I did the same thing to my 1982 jd 450c about ten years ago. I just used a large grinder and some hard facing rod. The wear on mine was about half as bad as yours. The manual calls for oil or grease to be put on the blade pivots but no one ever greases anything. Grease is cheaper than steel>>>>A note to the original owner of that dozer :) And yes I know most of those bushings were not meant to be greased. I would say that dozer has pushed a few yards of gravel in its day. Great stuff!!!!!! I dream of the day I get a milling machine so I can put the grinders away:)

This old girl has sure pushed a lot of material in its day. She deserves a second chance at life I guess. Milling machine is a huge game changer you will look at every job differently when you get one! Thanks for watching.

Appreciate the video and enjoyed it. I watch all the videos on the 450B. I have some of the same issues with my 450B. The pins/bushing are tight, including the big one with a castle nut on the bottom, but the blade is sloppy on the frame similar to what you had. I still need to pull it off to see how worn the pin is on the front of the angling frame. The plate with pin and bushing is available on the aftermarket for a little over $315, but it would be a big job for me to cut off the old one with the minimal set of tools I have for that type work. I think your approach was good, and as you suggested, it might have been easier to mill it down and then make a sleeve to go over it (future repair would be easier as well). I was thinking about plasma cutting some plate or sheet, drilling holes, then welding the pieces through the holes to the angling frame as a repair for the wear (a sort of weld on wear plate), but maybe I'll just weld and grind. I wish I had a nice Bridgeport like you. The curved retaining plates are available aftermarket as well, but they're over $200 each from what I could find.

Thanks for watching. Yeah I am aware a lot of parts can be purchased but I need to keep my spending reasonable on this thing. Its getting pricy quick and I really didn't get all to good of a deal on this dozer to start. Stay tuned I have another blade bushing video coming, a blade re-skin video, an engine removal video (Rear main seal) and maybe even a steering clutch repair/remove video.

Don't get me wrong, I like the way you are approaching it - even the aftermarket stuff is high for what it is. I'll have to do the repairs on the cheap as well, so you're giving me some ideas about how to approach it cheaply. Definitely will be looking forward to the other videos - my blade will need reskinned at some point, getting a lot of moisture in the oil, but don't know if it's all the blow-by or a water leak somewhere but either way the engine will need to come out, and I need to do a lot of repairs with the transmission and steering/brake system.

Yes they should.... Unfortunately one of them is worn through the bushing and well into the eye. No worries it's fixed in part 2, coming soon.
