In this how-to video, I show you detailed instructions on fixing the problem where water accumulates in and under the crisper drawers in a Samsung Twin Cool type Fridge. The part is cheap and available here: amzn.to/3ZmB2xe . Note for 2023. I update this part # as a cheaper part becomes available. This one is the cheapest I can find that does the job.
It takes longer to clean the fridge out than it does to install the part!!!
This is a straightforward fix that anyone with basic hand tools can do and save plenty of dollars.
Get this part from my Amazon Affiliate Link and support me here:amzn.to/3ZmB2xe

Great vid. Our Samsung was building ice over an inch thick in two places. I found your vid a couple years ago and made a deal with my wife-hold off buying a new refrigerator until I can try one last time to fix it. And after a couple of days, the two T pieces of metal were installed and two years plus later the fridge is running like a champ. Even my ice maker repaired itself. This is a five dollar fix that took me two days to do. Samsung should have fixed this long ago, but they sell more units when they break after three years. Thanks so much. I feel like I found $3000 on the ground!!! Free money. And no ice build up!!

Funnier that I actually fixed it, not being that kind of guy usually. But when I get my dander up...well...I tell ya...lol. KZfaq. Took me days to actually find your vid. Glad I did.

Mr. Bowlin, my hat is off to you! I have the exact same model of refrigerator -- the Samsung RF18 -- with the exact same problem. I followed your instructions, and bought the spare part from Amazon for $6. But when I installed the piece, I reversed it so that it hung opposite of how you installed it, with the tabs wrapping around the defroster bar from back to front, instead of from front to back. (I had seen it installed that way in another video). Using needle-nose pliers, I found it pretty simple to get the long outer tabs and the central piece wrapped around and cinched down on that defroster bar securely and completely. But I would have been totally lost on how to fix this stupid design flaw without your expert and easy-to-follow guidance. Thank you!

Your video gave me the courage to take the evaporator cover off to investigate. Everything was SO frozen that all the styrofoam on the cover came off in pieces and it appeared that there was no 3rd screw in removing the cover because it was covered with ice. The part you gave a number for was there - never attached if you can believe it! - so I attached it and have ordered a new evaporator cover. Thanks again considering I can’t even find a repairman. This is a great video, I used an endoscope to check for ice in the drain line. The first few inches looked clear. I tried using hot water and a turkey baster, after working on it for some time, I ended up spraying a little lock deicer in the drain tube. I then reinserted the endoscope, voila all the ice was gone. to get to the bottom of the tube it was about 18 inches.

Thanks for the video - I have the exact same problem. But instead of replacing with a longer $9 clip which I bought from Amazon, I bought 14 gauge 5 ft. half round copper wire to wrap around the heat coil and conduct the heat all the way down the drain pipe (it's about 4.5 ft long). I learned this from another KZfaq video. It's only a few days and I haven't found the water accumulating again. Will report back if it doesn't work.

Hi TR: I followed your instructions and they were perfect. The part I ordered was bigger than the part on my fridge AND, the part on the fridge had a metal snap instead of bendable metal to secure it on the bar. (I didn't know this until I opened it up.) I just twisted the old piece until it snapped off and installed the new part. I figure bigger is better! I am concerned, however, that the original part looked either a bit corroded or sheared. If a piece sheared off, it is down in the hole and could clog it up. Regardless, I took the time to wash it out and am waiting for it to finish cooling before I put my food back in. I live in the north and it is 23 degrees outside so a great time to work on this project. My food is in plastic storage bins in the garage staying nice and cool! As of today (12/29/20), assume everything worked fine unless you hear from me. Thanks again and Happy New Year....Terri
@trbowlin

@@terrimontemalo1367 Yes, the new part is longer, and snapping the old one off is exactly what you have to do. I'm in Idaho and it's 11 outside right now....brrrr So glad to hear back from you. Take care! Oh and I wouldn't worry about it shearing off and the corrosion is common too.

Your video got me going in the right direction but for me it was not this issue causing the problem, it was actually a lot easier. When I took the fridge apart there was standing water in the drain collector area but it was not frozen. Long story short I ended up taking the bottom back cover off and there are 2 Grey tubes on the right side (looking from the back of the fridge) that are drain tubes . When I removed the left tube it was clogged with some weird almost silicon substance. Unclogged it and water immediately ran out, about 1/4 cup and that was it. No problems since.

Been waiting for this video ever since you said you started experiencing the water build up in the bottom of the fridge. Thank you for getting it made and uploaded quickly. After reading Amazon reviews for this clip, it seems some people state the freezing problem still returns after a period of time. @trbowlin
@trbowlin 4 жыл бұрын
It is super easy. The only thing to be careful with is when you remove the cover that you don't pull it out so far that you break the wires. Just be careful and even if it does not fix it your only out a couple of bucks for the little tab. If it does fix it, then you've saved some money. I wouldn't read too much into which side the water is accumulating on, it just may be that there is more ice on one side verses the other forcing the water to drain a different direction. I say try it yourself and if that does not work then call the repairman.

There are two little weld spots on the old clip, carefully, with needle nose pliers or the like, grab the side of the clip closest to you and pull on the metal. The welds break easily. Perhaps. There is also a thermocouple known to need replacing in these fridges occasionally. There is a way to force the fridge into defrost mode. Not sure if it was just that the fridge had not been opened for so long caused the problem but there was lots of frost buildup in the freezer drawer. I opened the back up again and found the defroster drain totally frozen up. I have not found a solution to this problem so if you know of one drop a comment. I have this exact refrigerator and problem. I’m at right now following your instructions to fix the issue. I ordered the evaporator clip and am ready to go but I’ve run into an issue. The center screw at the top behind the little cover was actually iced over and I had to use a hairdryer to melt the ice so I could remove the screw. When I then loosened up the entire cover to remove it the styrofoam that is attached to the back of the panel stayed stuck to the rear of the fridge I assume because it’s frozen to the unit behind it. I’m using a hair dryer to accelerate the defrost process so I can remove the styrofoam but so far it’s not budging. Any idea how long it might take for this deep freeze to melt down or any suggestions?? Of course I’m doing this right now at 8:30 pm EST. Hoping you just might see this in real time. I’ll be watching for your reply. Thx in advance.
