Margarine tubs… invented for the express purpose of mixing wood finishes… analine dies, thinning Tung oil, mixing color into epoxy… and, apply right from the mixing bowl! I’ve also used them for small painting touch ups, draining fluids from engines and separating fasteners during tear downs. I used to save Cool Whip tubs but, my wife insists on home made whipped cream. So, I use Country Crock bowls now! After seeing that water in the fuel tank, the crap dissolved there and the general shape of the throttle etc… I just knew you were due for an electrical and carburetor rebuild. Neil, I heard Neighbor Donnie looking over your shoulder. I’m gonna believe he sent inspiration from above to bring that engine to life! My TracVac is PTO driven. That saves me a bunch of time and money on engine repair. However, I still have to leave my seat to dump it. I wonder how an auto dump system for it would look? It would be complicated… but surely it can be done. All I need is a hydraulic cylinder to pivot the bed on the frame. Some kind of hinge and lock on the tail panel… perhaps electric would do? And, a bendable tube that would detach, position and reattach… between the outlet of the vac and the inlet of the collection box. I’m gonna ruminate on that for a while. Having this video for motivation and the Frankensplitter video I am releasing this morning for inspiration… I have hopes that I can get it done!

I agree totally with your never-seize comments and I am truly amazed after seeing the condition of the gas tank that you did not have to rebuild the carb. Great job my friend!

Your videos are so relevant to me. I seem to always look for ( I know I have it but where) and then ponder if I should repurpose old steel. I always save old aluminum pans from caterers that were used for food delivery. Clean them up and I always have a use for them. 5 gallon buckets are always useful. Neil keep posting, the videos are enjoyable for sure!

My grandpa always saved the metal coffee cans.... he was the president of the towns water department so he kept all sorts of fittings in them in his garage

I just pulled exactly this type of MCS off of my 430 when I got it. It's sitting in a tarp in my back yard, nobody seems to want them where I live. Super handy for big yards, not so much for less than an acre. lol

Because of this video, it was in the back of my mind to find something like this and of course, on our way up to see family in NJ, I found one for $600 that runs on starting fluid but doe not have the 3pt hook up but the other method to hook up for the John Deere. Just gotta make things work for my BX 2360 and then I can start sucking up anything that I can mow. Thank you for showing this as now it should make my life easier with tasks.

Lately, I've heard a lot of Pittsburghese used in videos but didn't know what it was or that it was a thing. Once I heard your Daughter ask "what needs fixed", I had to look it up and see what was going on.

Great video and reminded me of my struggles when I procured my first MCS. My pivot rod actually broke before breaking free which led me to my 2nd MCS which is functional. I have considered having the rod turned down a few thousandths and adding zerk fittings along the housing to grease that rod. Also you may have already figured out, don’t let the lift cylinders get too far out of sync because it will rack the frame and bend the large guide rods. It also should have a shutoff that you’re suppose to keep closed except for dumping. This keeps the cylinders from bleeding up and slightly lifting the lid while collecting debris. It can become a dusty mess when it does that. I have found myself jockeying the hyd lever to keep my lid firmly seated. Anxious for the leaf collecting video!

Amazing how so many little screwups can make something non-functional. I'm sure the average DIY'r would have given up after 1 or 2 (which is probably why you were able to pick it up). Kudos for hanging in there and getting them all identified and fixed.

You cleaning the gas tank reminded me of a time i had a IH tractor with a rusty gas tank tank, and did basically the same thing you did with the rocks but with stainless steel nuts, worked great. I cant wait for firewood videos! Feel free to make a long video anytime!

Fantastic fix up job and a perfect example of why one never throws anything out ;-) I used to own one of those "track vacs" and used it with my John Deere 420 Garden Tractor. I wanted one like you just fixed up but never got one. The "track vac" got the job done and I had other bigger wants....

Great video Neil. Your pebbles in the tank trick reminded me that my Mother used to do the same with uncooked rice grains and water in different containers in the kitchen to clean them out. You remind me of one of our neighbours years ago who grew carrots for a living. He had five Ford 5000 tractors just so he didn't have to change implements! Neil. I keep the plastic Chinese food containers with lids. You asked a few questions that I think you want answered? lol Check the hydraulic level on your tractor now after you have cycled those cylinders. They were probably empty and hopefully you filled them from the system on the tractor. I couldn't tell if the lines on the bagger were closed. The WD in WD 40 means water displacement. It is a penetrating oil as well and not the best lubricant, try using something with silicone or lithium in it for a lubricant like for your garage door hinges. I don't know if it is still made but for the throttle cable a product called "Dry Slide" is great if you can find it. A good way to clean rust or debris from gas tanks and the like, is putting a piece of chain inside and strapping on the hood of your mower while you mow. The vibrating chain will have it looking like you sand blasted it. Finally. That bar you put the anti seize on, drill the outer pipe and tap it to thread in grease fittings. If you use it every year you will thank yourself next fall. I did that on the shovel bucket I made for my JD 430. When are you going to put that dump truck in the garage and make it black and chrome? ;o)

My father and I spent all day Saturday cutting and splitting 3 truck loads of white oak and ash!! We cut a 50" white oak for a lady last fall and she gave me all the wood for my Central boiler! The 2021 Fall leaf harvest should go great. As for the steering shaft being sacrificed it will only take a piece of round rod to return it to full value. Which is probably less than the cost of the rod. 😉

I keep 5 gallon laundry powder detergent buckets w/lids, 4 pound coffee tins, 3 pound cottage cheese plastics, 8 gallon trash cans (some w/lids), and an extra 96 gallon trash pickup service cart.

That was really fun to watch. I wish I had your knowledge/patience, or even a tenth of it. I try to do some repairs on different things and it rarely, if ever, goes anywhere near that smoothly. 😁

Just tagged in and you were talking about the RPM not being high enough .... yeah the RPM will get better over time, however if it don't recover enough for your satisfaction you can put more tension (some bend and some adjust) on the governor spring and that should increase the RPM ... baby steps

I save my Dunkin doughnut plastic coffee containers. Great for catching fluids and soaking my chainsaw chain before sharpening.

Known at work as the guy with the container fetish. As an electrician I like to save 3M wire nut containers they have a nice handle on them where you can put a label and a screw on top. They come into several different sizes and I've literally lined my entire van with them. I have a very hard time throwing away anything that could potentially be used as a perfect container for that one little thing someday. Don't ever apologize for long videos. Understand that there's a lot of theories out there as to how long a video should be but there's plenty of us out there who love videos longer the better

Love the video just got my first self contained trac vac for my old 110 it should get me by this year but will be looking for a new engine and impeller as the engine burns a lot of oil and the impeller has seen better days but it works great for now

Collection systems are awesome! Especially the power dump models. They are expensive new and I don't see alot where I live. I noticed the 322, great model! A friend had one from New and just recently sold and got a new X series GT.

I always save oil ,antifreeze and washer fluid jugs can use those for everything

Nice find Neil! In my opinion those hydraulic dump MCS units are the best collection units out there. I've had tow-behind vacuums, baggers, and sweepers and none of them really seem to get the job done - especially when you've got really heavy grass to pick up. I'd like to find one of these 3-point units with the engine-driven blower someday - that way I could use it on my 318, 782, 2072, or any garden tractor with 3-point hitch.

I save primarily the butter-type tubs and the gallon liquid jugs (milk, juice, etc.). It was really easy when I had one of the huge recycling cans and I dumped all my recycle containers in it. I always had a "fresh" supply until I put it out to the curb and started over. I don't have that option now, so I have to pick and choose what I'm going to keep and what I'm going to throw away. I don't like onions either unless cooked up inside a recipe. Strange, I know. *shrugz*

Neil, AntiSeize can attract and retain moisture. While WD-40 Silicone Dry Lube dries to the touch. Or weld a bung on and tap in a grease zerk and filler full of grease.

The backhoe forks were pretty cool.

Anti seize does work good, I’ve started using brake pin slide grease on a lot of stuff like that tho, and really like that stuff. Plus you don’t look like the tin man afterwards.

Ethanol in regular gas will eat rubber like the missing pick up tube in the fuel tank and gums up everything else. Premium is the only way to go now days unless you use fuel conditioners. That leaf vac setup looks like it will work awesome on the tractor compared to using a pull behind sweeper and getting off the machine to dump it all the time.
