Honda Crv Idle Surging Fix P0507 High Idle IAC Valve

Күн бұрын

This 2004 Honda Crv 2.4 Vtec had a p0507 code and no vacuum leaks.
Ive seen many honda IAC (idle air control) valves get corroded and stuck, causing a idle surge when in park or neutral, where the engine will rev up and down on its own.
If you suspect a IAC Valve issue, this video will show you how to remove it and clean it out/or replace if need be.
Your AICV might not be bad, it might just be stuck... Hope this video helps! Thanks for watching FixItPhillip! Please be sure to Subscribe!
CODE P0507 : Idle Air Control System Higher Than Expected
This Procedure applies for 2002-2004 honda crv 2.4L, but may also be helpful info for other Hondas/Vehicles

Thanks so much. My daughters 2003 Honda CR-V was stalling at idle. 2 mechanics looked at it and scratched their heads. One said it wasn’t throwing any codes so there was nothing he could do. How hard it is to find a mechanic that really knows their craft anymore! The other replaced the fuel pump sweating that was the issue. The idle air control valve ended up being the problem and this video was awesome for showing me what I would need to deal with and saved me a lot of trial and error. Thanks to the video creator, you gave me what I needed to fix my car after 2 auto shops gave up!

We had the same problem with a 98 Accord V6. IACV was badly clogged up and didn’t work after attempts at cleaning. Bought after market valve and found that it idled high but had to go with it as away from home. Once back the idle returned to normal and has been working ok since then. Thanks for your excellent video that was the best!!

You are a champion. My wife’s car just had this very issue, or it would idle so low it would cut out. I just followed your instructions and sure enough that spindle on the electric motor was sticking. Sure I had to go and buy the t-20 piece to unscrew those screws halfway through the job, but I was pretty happy when I put it all back together and the car runs perfectly. To anyone else about to take this on, don’t do what I did, watch the whole video first and make sure you have all the tools you need. I’m about to make a third trip and buy some coolant. 👊🏽

Heres a list of things Ive done to my 2004CRV that was burning a quart of oil a week, running a bit harshly and not idling perfectly.. it had 310,000km on it. I got it running alot better and its not burning oil anymore: -sea foam GDI intake cleaner, -oil cleaner additive before oil change -used “high milage” oil -put in the most expensive oil filter -lucas oil treatment for sealing the engine -gumout fuel line cleaner additive to gasoline -new spark plugs -new battery -cleaned IACV valve -cleaned the mass airflow sensor with mass airflow sensor cleaner. All of these repairs were relatively cheap and it was very satisfying to see how doing simple things can make a drastic change in the cars performance.

Great video. My car failed smog check yesterday with Amazon's china knockoff Idle air control valve for my 2003 Honda accord. Luckily I kept my OEM IACV. Followed your method and restored the function of my old OEM IACV. I didn't have a five star screw driver so I used my locking plier like a wrench to unscrew the electrical portion of IACV from the mechanical portion. In fact, I de-threaded one of the original screw that held my IACV onto the throttle body as well but I am still using the same the screw by using the same locking plier technique. (Honda dealers didn't have any screw available until next week... maybe most people de-threaded those screws because they didn't use your impact driver- hammer technique.) . Again thanks, you saved me a ton of money and time since I don't have to special order new OEM IACV now.

Your video and some of the comments saved me some grief. Did a starter replacement and then got the surge. Checked all over for vacuum leaks. Pulled some codes but didnt read data Pulled off idle valve, slightly stuck from carbon but i think whats happening is when the intake and throttle body are removed eg when doing a starter replacement that the tinyest but of crud grit or whatever causes the valve which is probably already carbonuzed to stick, anything entering the throttle body just drops right in to the idle valve. It took vice grips to get one of the phillips ana JIS screws loose, the torks i cut a slot with a die grinder and a sharp screwdriver broke those. Thanks honda man..

Just subscribed, your video on this was absolutely perfect... every subtle comment as you explained and demonstrated this repair was greatly appreciated. Our 2004 CR-V was purchased by our kids who have been storing it for 6 months (until the grandkids can drive) and it developed this exact problem. It has the same erratic idle and trouble code, and I have great confidence that the IAC vane is carbon-jammed as you demonstrated. Will be doing this repair once I gather replacement o-rings and the specialty tools you specified. Excellent

Idle relearn. Disconnect battery and ground negative with positive terminals for 10 minutes. Reconnect battery. Turn ignition to key on engine off for 2 seconds, then start car. Let idle for 10 minutes. Idle should drop down below 1000 rpm, after a few minutes. When that is complete the idle relearn is complete and your good to go. If the idle does not drop down below 1000 rpms, then you need to reset the computer using a scan tool.

AFTER THE PROCEDURE: You will have a hunting idle problem (Consistently reving up and down in a cyclical pattern) because you let air into the coolant line right next to the IACV. Idle relearn will not fix this. Open the radiator cap, when the car is off and cold. Squeeze the radiator tube a bunch of times to burp any air bubbles out. (Who cares if you spill some out of the radiator) After that, the hunting idle should be fixed, but you’ll still have minor idle issues. Thats when you do the idle relearn process. For a noob like myself, I feel like it would have been nice to add this into the tutorial.. took me a day to figure out what was going on, I didnt realize coolant played that important of a roll.

Just like he says, when the 2.4L has say about 70K to 200K miles +\- and the engine sits for weeks or months, the IACV will absolutely get seized. I guarantee this procedure works to remedy the error code. - Note: The system may or may not throw an OBD code yet the idle will fluctuate.

@@FixItPhillip This idle problem popped up and decided I wasn't going to get the code read at the parts shop... Time for me to get a scan tool. Autel looks like it does great... Any others you would consider? Love the rooster sound affects!!!

Thanks Philip... Great video. I saw someone clean the t-body and valve without disconnecting coolant lines and without removing the electronic actuator. Would you be worried about cleaner getting in the actuator?

i am currently having this issue. 2003 honda crv 2.4 UK manufactored model. things ive tried, 1)purchased the $300 oem iac , 2) iac relearn procedure 2sec on, then 3k rev for 10 without any load, 3) removed the ecu/pcm fuse for 5 min then replace and tried the relearn again, 4) check for vacuum leaks, 5)replaced the pcv incase this was the issue. i initially removed the old iac cleaned it and installed with no luck, this is why i bought a oem replacement. One thing i’ve noticed, when i erase the p0505 code with obd scanner, the crv idles perfect until driven and the check engine light comes back on. hopefully you may have some insight. thank you in advanced

@@ronm4850 Hey I might have found my problem, I got the p0505 code and when I replaced the iacv, I figured since I took the throttle body off I’d clean it, well that’s the thing, I cleaned it off too good apparently. There’s a very thin coating of what looks like sealant of some sort around the inside and around the butterfly. It helps close off the throttle better. I pulled one from a junkyard and carefully cleaned it, to not remove that sealant. I installed it yesterday and my car is idling at 700! It’s never been that low, it was always at 1000 on idle. I reset the code and now waiting for sensors to set for smog. Will update if needed. Good luck!

Everything amazing my problem is that those coolant hoses are stuck, they like welded or burn to the idle valve! And I can't find the new parts(hose) to replace them ! Anyone knows the part number! Or what to do, I worry if I cut them, they will not fit right anymore.

Hello, that little vacuum hose. Is it connected to a sensor? If so, what's the name of the sensor?. Your reply is appreciated.

I have 2007 Civic EX. Recently experienced noise, unstable idle, and shaking when cold starts. Cleaned throttle body, EGR and MAP sensor. Replaced IAC valve. However, problem has not been fixed. Do you think if I should replace intake manifold gasket? Thanks a lot!

I would take it into a good shop to get it diagnosed so you're not just throwing parts at it or spending extra money you don't have to
