Hi! You can use these if you like: 20 minute joint compound: amzn.to/3Nrw9MB 45 minute : amzn.to/3OuiPZp 90 minute : amzn.to/3noqLzp Choose from which set time you want to work with the joint compound 👍🏽😊

Your videos are very detailed. I appreciate you showing the various angles to draw the mud across the patch in real time. It is a slow process but not the "magic" other videos focus on. Like your channel very much.

Overall excellent job. Very nice cutting of the sheetrock- nice and square. Notice how he correctly left a 1/8" gap around the border. This allows for expansion without cracking. He also correctly predrilled the drywall and went in about one inch (minimum) from each corner. It was good that he allowed ample drying times for each layer. If not, it can crack over time. Do NOT rush it with a hair dryer. If it is a day with high humidity, drying can take much longer. Thin coats are always better than heavy coats. He did many things right, that most "experts" fail to do. A few minor suggestions to make the repair even better would be... 1. Use TAPE (better/stronger), not mesh. And never mesh in corners. Tape you have to do a mud layer first to seat it. Not sure why he used both here- maybe just to show the techniques. For the rest of us, just use one or the other and usually TAPE. Do not overlap the tape like he did. It raises the repaired area and it can become noticable. On the final coat, use TOPPING COMPOUND vs. the regular joint compound used in the first 2 steps. So that final coat will be a thinner, easier to work with and more sandable "SKIM COAT." Of course, they sell a specialized product but many people will simply add a "little" bit of water to their joint compound. 2. Never drive the screws in quite as deep. By doing so you break through the drywall/paper. This always reduces the strength of the hold (screw holding power.) Just go very slightly deeper than flush. A trick is to set the drill to a very weak setting and adjust as you go one click at a time. better yet, get close with the drill, then finish manually the old fashioned wasy (manual screwdriver.) Just take your time and be careful to not go too deep. When in doubt, you can always add an extra screw or two for added strength. Just keep them at least 2" away from each other when possible. 3. Learn how to feather and use a larger drywall knife. When using that knife and also when sanding, it is very important to apply more pressure and angle it to the outside. This will limit or eliminate a hard line on the inside area. when sanding, avoid straight lines. Some circular sanding motions may help too. Do not go hard- let the paper do the work.

I’m a handyman trying to rapidly build a bunch of core skills. Your reply here made a lot of sense and helped me a lot! Though he’s a bit smug, I’ve loved watch the Vancouver Carpenter channel for master drywall work. You think he’s good?

@@sethburkhart1021 Glad it helped. Don't be in a rush to learn. Practice- even on small pieces at home instead of on a customers project. Once you learn the basics, you should be fine. Be careful on ladders and always protect your lungs too- wear quality protection- not just a paper mask. Over time, these chemicals can do real harm like random lung cancer at a young age. I have seen it and you don't want that. Wear eye protection too- that dust can get into your bloodstream via your eyes. I am not familiar with that Carpenter. Just take knowledge from people- their attitude does not really matter. You are not their friend. Good luck.

The trick apparently is, to, instead of drawing your desired square up on the ceiling and cutting that out 'first....just cut your 'piece of new drywall first'...then place it up on the ceiling and draw around that. i'll be doing one here soon myself.

Thanks for the video, very well done. I’m new to the DIY and trying patch a hole in my ceiling, just was wanted to know exactly what you used for the repair. You mentioned the tools, is there just one type of “joint compound” to use, and if all three coatings were the same compound, just applied three times? Thanks again very informational and I like the way you made it look very simple. You inspired me to do it instead of hiring someone….lol

I've followed this video (and similar ones) and used 2 planks to attach the patch to the ceiling/existing drywall. It causes a small problem: screws force drywall patch to be at a certain angle. Are there tips on how to have them hold the new drywall piece in place but not dictate angle of the patch? Thanks!

I am patching around an electrical outlet; the existing drywall is 5/8. When I add the 5/8 drywall it leaves very little gap for the joint compound. Is this okay? Or should I be using 1/2 inch drywall so the gap is greater for the joint compound?

I had this done to my ceiling by some contractors. It's pretty good, but there are minor uneven spots with the plaster. You can't really notice it at all in normal lighting settings and it looks pretty good, but when I put a flashlight alongside the ceiling, you can really see the bumps and where they plastered. Is this to be expected? I can send you a video if you'd like...

I'm new to your channel and to all of this. I have a passion to learn of these things you teach the only suggestion I have is do you have a beginners video for how to use a tape measure and how to accurately measure? Sounds a little dumb but I struggled with that for month, measuring how to cut straight lines after measuring I think that would be a great video. Theast thing is thanks for taking the time to show us this.
