How to Cut and Replace Ceiling Drywall

Learn how to cut and replace ceiling drywall. If you have damaged drywall on your ceiling, maybe from a water leak then this video will teach you how to cut the existing drywall and mount the new drywall onto the ceiling. I will detail the steps taken by repairing a large section of the ceiling drywall. I will detail how to prep the repair, how to cut the hole in the existing drywall and then everything you need to know to properly install the new drywall onto the ceiling. When you install the new drywall properly it makes the whole ceiling repair process much easier. If you have had a water leak and need to replace a large section of the ceiling drywall this video will be perfect for you because that is exactly what happened in this example.

I have a hole at least that big due to a contractor almost falling through and am now waiting for them to fix it. I wondered about how it's done and you've made it look easy enough, thank you for that, but these guys have to deal with fiber glass plus blown in insulation, which is going to just create a huge mess, which I've already cleaned up from the start. Not looking forward to it getting fixed but it has to be done. I hope they do as good a job as you have.

I like the support you used to lift it up there and secure it. Say the builders at my house struggle. It was very long dry wall. Needed 3 people. I ha e some spare dry wall and was looking to do it myself although idk what I'm getting g myself into and I don't know where to start as your video already missed this part.

Im just curious as to why you used the furring strips instead of just mounting the drywall directly to the joists?

This was a good beginning video, but then you glossed over and completely skipped how to finish the ceiling. You mention "mudding," but don't show or explain what that is or how to do it. I really appreciate your attention to detail in the parts you did go into, though! I have an entire panel in my garage that I need to replace, but don't know how to "connect" the pieces. It looks like there's some kind of tape, but I don't know what it is... Hence my resorting to KZfaq videos to try to learn. I'd love your feedback or any references to other videos that might help!

You can use drywall tape that is solid but typical people use the type that’s meshed which is fiba tape. Thanks for the feedback on the video!!!
