ARB Outback Solution Drawers installed in my TTUE 2014 Fj Cruiser
I was looking for a minimalist way to consolidate all my gear in the back of the Fj. I found that a drawer system was going to be the best option. This video is a brief description of how I installed the ARB Outback solution RD745 Drawers without having to drill into the factory floor.

Very nice - great job! Great video. I ran across this while looking for a way to build a sleeper in the back and found out I need to start with a "platform"... wish me luck!

No problem! There are many different options, but this was the one I ended on. Haven’t seen any other fj with arb drawers, but it definitely worked out and I don’t regret my decision

Planning on buying an FJ soon and have been trying to visually configure it for my fire/EMS needs as well as daily driving and adventures. Was sort of against a drawer system but I think I could make it work for what I’m looking to accomplish. Do you think the top of the drawers could support two people? So when needed the seats could fold and then a second half platform gets put into place?

Yes I think it could support the weight of two people. Have you ever considered taking out the back seats and running two long drawers that can be used as a sleeping platform?

Marti Artisan well I don’t have the car yet but I want to ultimately keep the rear seats in. I don’t need much storage. Just a little bit of storage. But when needed I can fold them and add the other half of a platform.

Thanks! I think I paid around $900. They are two separate drawers which I purchased from my local 4wp parts. You can always find some sort of discount code online

Thanks! Yes you can. I actually picked up a dometic cfx fridge shortly after I made this video. Works great!

I like your solution. Do you think two of the RD745s would work if stacked vertically in the FJ? Is there enough clearance for a second unit on top given the angle of the back seat? I'd like to have two locking drawers, but I would like to leave room for taller items next to the drawers. Thanks.

Tim Tarvin I have actually thought about that set up lately. I recently picked up a Gunner Kennel for my Australian Shepard, but it doesn’t fit on top of the drawers and the shape of the rear door opening. If I stacked the drawers I think I could definitely put extra gear, kennel, or a fridge in that empty location. Right now I don’t have the back seats in my Fj, but I can put them back in sometime this week, take some measurements, and definitely get back to you. It might be close..

@@MartiArtisan I appreciate the feedback. I took some measurements with a tape measure estimating where the drawers would be, and I'm not sure the second drawer would fit stacked on top. It'll be a close call.

Tim Tarvin I figured it would be close. I plan on putting the seat back in and seeing if both drawers fit on top of each other this weekend. I will get back to you with the outcome!

Mike Karlbom unfortunately not due to the seat design. If you were to take the seat out they would.

If you were to fold the back seats down, could you comfortably sleep on top of it? Or would it not be flush with the back seats when folded?

Campfire Vampires the drawers and seats when folded down aren’t flush. You could definitely build a platform to go on top of the seat backs when folded down so you could sleep on it!

Do you get much rattling noise from them when off-roading?

Briar Smoke As long as I pack the drawers efficiently, nothing inside the drawers rattle while off-roading. The drawers themselves are bolted down securely and aren’t going anywhere so they don’t rattle either! After many off road trips and heavy use with these drawers I couldn’t be happier with this purchase.

Hello there! planning to do the same setup in my car, possible to shoot how the base looks like? how did you fix it in the floor of the cargo space? appreciated!

I don’t have photos of the base. I basically just cut out a piece of plywood that fits the floor of the fj. Bolted it down to the factory mounting locations and carpeted it. After that I bolted the drawers to the wood. Overall very cost effective and simple process. Makes it easy to go back to factory without drilling unnecessary holes

ARB-2012010 and ARB-FJFK Only metal tech has them designed for the FJ. Only thing I see might be a problem is you can't get to the factory Jack nor tools without relocate them to the drawers.

Factory jack and tools are relocated to the drawers. Still have plenty of space in them as well!

Is the base sheet of wood REQUIRED for installation or was it just your preference?

FJoy technically it’s not required. The only reason I went with the wood was to eliminate drilling into the floor. The drawers are heavy enough that you technically don’t have to bolt them down but I did for security and for when I go off road.

@@MartiArtisan thx My understanding was they bolt to existing holes in the floor of the FJ (where the tie downs are) ... do the holes not line up?

FJoy the drawers bolt to the wood. The wood bolts to the existing holes in the floor. Other than that the holes don’t line up

@@MartiArtisan i know where the rear D-ring locations are but which factory holes did you use immediately rear of the seats/where are they located? I can dig it up, but do you know offhand what size bolts you used to bolt down the plywood to the factory holes?

austriker you’ll need to order two to do what I did. They are sold individually. Also it’s recommended to do your own measurements to make sure it meets your specific needs.
