Brand new FDNY Ladder 2 responds to Box 4500

We are at quarters of FDNY Engine 8, Ladder 2, and Battalion 8 at 165 East 51st Street, where we see Ladder 2 as it responds to Box 4500 at 720 5th Avenue at West 56th Street for a stuck elevator with an occupant in it. Ladder 2 is a brand new 2017 Ferrara Ultra with a 100 foot rear mount aerial. As Ladder 2 responds, we see Engine 8 as they return from a run that they had been on. Engine 8 is a 2008 Seagrave Marauder II. Enjoy the view of the brand new rig. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. Three minutes out the door seems like a long time, but I think it is recommended by the NFPA that it shouldn't take any longer than that. What I don't get is why the driver , or in FDNY parlance, the chauffer turns on the emergency lights before starting the engine. It puts an unnecessary strain on the batteries

One thing that I’ve been wondering about over the last few years, what are those articulated hoses hanging from the ceiling in the truck bay for?

They get hooked up to the truck to get exhaust fumes out of the firehouse when the truck is running.

Dude its a bullshit run they probably do about 15 of those a night in that place.Every truck in the city responds like that to an elevator or water leak .

Nice truck and elevator rescue suck! By the time they get there the maintenance crew for the building probably got it working again anyway. Oh well great looking truck

Why does the truck have what looks like "10-10" written reversed on the inside of the windshield? Any idea?

@@FL92002 Ah! Thank you, now I realize it's 10' 10" and not just "10-10." That's actually pretty smart. Better than doing it the U-Haul way and putting it to where you have to look in the mirror to see your 13'6" height.

Does the FDNY have LDHs on any of their engines?

Yes but usually just pony sections. You’ll rarely see them having to lay a long stretch like most other FDs. Half the time they could spit on a plug when they pull up.

Why call the fire brigade to a stuck elevator? I mean, there's a emergency number you call if it gets stuck so seems like a waste of resources to call for additional help? It's another story if someone in the elevator gets sick or something...

Brian Cetin Unfortunately it’s not just NYC. Almost every dept. I know of pretty much runs all of the “don’t know who to call? let’s just give it to the fire dept.” 🤦🏼‍♂️

Actually, FDNY doesn’t work 24s. They work day tour 9a-6p and night tour 6-9

As a retired firefighter you should know that 99% of what they are responding to is complete bull$hit. Just out of curiosity when you retired did they let you keep the recliner?

I don't even understand why the fire brigade is called to a stuck elevator? At least where I live every elevator has a number you call if it gets stuck, never seen firefighters arrive on the scene.

@@simonnyman9031 The biggest reason is because of the real possibility that the occupants will need to be evacuated by less than safe means. There are those who don't do well in confined spaces and those with medical conditions which can be exacerbated by remaining trapped for extended times. FD has a very fast response time and can facilitate an emergency evacuation faster.

@@robsmith2523 No they are not but they are spec out with rescue equipment, EMT's and training on how to evacuate people from stuck elevators all while being located throughout the city.
