In this video, Coach Chris TRU goes over a great drill using a setup that can work for both offense and defense. Footwork and the ability to make cuts and transitions are critical components of successful defensive, as well as offensive, maneuvers. This drill will allow players to run through various transition and footwork techniques to improve their overall game.
For the Defense, focus on the transition on backpedal to forward sprint to help develop the skills for covering a shifty wide receiver. You could also throw in a toss as they sprint out that forces them to turn around or make a play on the ball while in motion.
For the Offense, focus on their cutting and using the outside foot to build the speed and shiftiness that will help them beat corners. And as always, get that pass in at the end, and make sure they're focusing on hand placement when catching. For younger players, just have them take a hand-off and focus on using the correct side for elbow-up.
