Yeah, it comes from the notion of keeping up appearances. It's the same phenomenon with being nice in public vs at home. The more comfortable you are with someone, the more of a bastard you can be (and it can get ugly at times). I hate it.

It's was such a weird situation. Everybody in Slovenia was expecting that Primož will easily win and hoping for Tadej Pogačar to be second. Everybody had remembered Primož as a ski jumper and was later so proud to see, what he's achived after the injury in cycling. It was an absurd day, that we had a dubble win in tour de france and were definitely not exploding with happiness. Lets hope that the next few years bring an opportunity for our win together:)

Bartek is the diminutive of Bartolimiej. also, that "L" with a stroke in it is not the letter L in Polish. Rather it makes a sound closer to tye English letter W in standard Polish and a WL sound in Galician Polish. Meanwhile, the Polish w is actually the letter V in English. And yes, I understand just confusing . It was even more so for me since many in my family were native Polish speakers. I didn't realize for years that when my mother and her parents were speaking of "Wodj" and my father of "Wlodzh", these both meant the Polish City that we spell Lodz in English.

So I noticed this in the episode but it came up again: dual is not a tense, it’s a number. Tenses are for verbs, talking about time, and numbers are for nouns talking about how many. Actually Austria-Hungary was a state formed in the second half of 19th century. Before that it was just called Austria and before that it was just "The realm of Habsburgs" since nation states weren't the concept until 18th century so lands were named by who ruled over them, especially in central Europe. So Barbs was quite correct in his choice of words in this one...

There are remnants of dual in Serbian too. In most of the things which are always a couple (like eyes). We say oči (eyes) more common than oka (dva oka - two eyes) from the singular oko. Are you sure "oči" is meant as dual? Because in Slovene that's plural. So it's weird for me seing that as a dual form :D Singular: Oko Dual: Očesi Plural: Oči/Očesa
@amarillorose7810
@amarillorose7810 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, mostly in the nouns "oko, uho, ruka, noga, sluga", whose genitive is [mnogo] očiju, [mnogo] ušiju, [mnogo] ruku, [mnogo] nogu, [mnogo] slugu, tj. there is no ending -a, as most nouns of these types, e.g. "(mnogo) sela" / [many] villages, "(mnogo) kuća / [many] houses. "Dual" is a "grammatical number" and "dual tense" as Barbs called it is not the right translation for it. In Serbian it is called "dual" or "dvojina".
@yaxman8163
@yaxman8163 3 жыл бұрын
@@QuinlanLJ It's definitly not a dual form. In croatian and serbian "Oči" is a plural form of "Oko", we say "Oči" for human and for spider eyes respectively and spiders have more than two eyes. @Amarillo Rose - More precisely, in croatian/serbian "dvojina" is remained only in referencing exactly two, three or four of something. For example: Jedan "čovjek" - One man Dva, tri ili četiri "čovjeka" - Two, three or four men pet "ljudi" - five men I'm not a linguist though so I can be wrong.

@@yaxman8163 When you type čovjeka is the same if they two or three. Dva čovjeka, tri čovjeka, četiri čovjeka. Every time čovjeka the same. But main point is that example: Ja idem Jaz grem Nasdvoje idemo Midva grema Mi idemo Mi gremo Ti ideš Ti greš Vasdvoje idete Vidva gresta Vi idete Vi greste On ide On gre Onadvojica idu Onadva gresta Oni idu Oni gredo As you se your dual and plural are thesame: idemo, idetei idejo. In Slovene are pairs grema - gremo, gresta - greste and gresta - gredo. That is duality of verbs. And the same have just Sorbian from Germany and Sanskrit language, which is like Latin language. Old, but not death, because Indian are learning Sanskrit in school. Do you get the point? I know that hard to understand, because you don`t have it.

@@yaxman8163 And čovjek i ljudi is the same as man and people. Or in Slovene človek in ljudje. But ljudi, people and ljudje isjust another word hat means word that hasjust plural form. That are some families of such word, which have just plural. You cannot say people, ljudi, ljudje in singular, do you think so?

Hey barbs, so glad you got my family's letter. For months we kept an eye out for fan flag friday videos. We gave up thinking you read it off screen. We watched this video today shocked to see you open our letter. Don't know how we missed it. Glad you got everything ok, but I am baffled as to why the foam wrap was removed from the box. We were worried that the note we wrote on the outside would make the package go through extra screening. I guess maybe it did and some heartless security guy removed it. I hope your mom likes the box.

Yeah, like singular and plural, there's also a dual number, which I don't quite understand. Does it only exist in Slovenian? And, is it's function to indicate two of something? So instead of saying "two birds" or "dvije ptice" in English or Croatian, the noun takes a certain form that will automatically tell you that there are two of that something? Please correct me if I completely misunderstood the use of this number.
@Vininn126

@@KathrynSrce3719 essentially. It's just a form of the noun that means two. So you don't have to say the word two

@@KathrynSrce3719 Since you used the example of "bird," this is what it looks like in Slovene: 🔹Ptica (1) 🔹Ptici (2) 🔹Ptice (3+) And it's not just with nouns, it's reflected in verbs too. 🙂 For example, this is the verb "go" in the 1st person: 🔹Grem (1; just me) 🔹Greva (2; me and one other person) 🔹Gremo (3+; me and 2 or more other people)

Another fact: PUBG map Vikendi is also mostly inspired by Slovenia. PUBG Corps went to Slovenia and it inspired them. Name of places are slav. For example, Goroka and lake on the map looks like famous city Bled (in PUBG it just hasnt got an island so they put it and named it: Castle which is above lake Bled), Dino park is also a thing in bled and it is actually very interesting. Just like you said we have a big port called Luka Koper. Dobro Mesto means good city in Slovene and Zabava means Fun (party). In Slovenia we have also have quite a big coal in Velenje. We do not have a space centre. Mount Kreznic does not have a translation but locals have located it in Croatia. Peshkova was a Russian woman fighting for human rights in 19th and 20th century (Ekaterina Peshkova) In Slovenia we also have many wineries. Vihar also means storm. You can find eeven more information on reddit. Your pronunciations are hilarious, but I must admit Slovenian language is hard. Love from Slovenia😉!

Pronunciation guide for Primož Roglič, who won two Vuelta e Espagnas, not one, and Tadej Pogačar, who also won the 2019 Tour of California, at least from someone who watched weeks of American Grand Tour coverage: Pri-mozh Rogue-lich and Ta-deh Po-Ga-Cha. I've also heard Roglič pronounced with a hard 'c' at the end, and Pogačar like Poga-Char like in Charmander.
