Flagship First is the only True First Class in the United States, at least according to American Airlines. But watch this video to decide for yourself!
In this video, you’ll see what it’s like in Flagship First on one of American Airlines’ most Premium Routes onboard an American Airlines A321.
Flagship First is American Airlines’ most luxurious of First Class experiences and you’ll see it all, from the current “version” of a Flagship First Lounge, the Flagship First food, Flagship First seat, and even the Flagship First service.
In the current reality of travel, premium experiences are tough to find, but American Airlines has retained a surprising level of luxury in Flagship First between JFK and LA, San Francisco, and (777-300 flights) Miami.
The American Airlines A321T is a special airplane with an interior especially designed for these premium routes. In this video, we’ll walk through the entire cabin to see the 36 Main Cabin seats, the 36 Main Cabin Extra seats, the 20 lay-flat Business Class Seats, and the 10 Flagship First suites.
But, as always, let me know what you think of Flagship First.

As a European and an Airbus shareholder I like the fact the narrow body A321 can provide long range services in comfort, it's the growing trend and will be increased when the XLR comes out. That weird adapter is actually either a LEMO or an XLR headset jack, which is used to power ANR/Bluetooth headsets on commercial aircraft. Not a common plug for use by the general public, and still very new to the aviation world, but it is becoming our preferred plug as it allows us to wear ANR headsets without carrying batteries! These planes are specifically for JFK-premium West Coast and are segregated from the rest of the fleet. They were excluded from the Oasis reconfiguration. But 1-1 first on a narrowbody is unheard of elsewhere. The international J behind it is 2-2.

Sad to see pre COVID service still hasn’t returned. I’ve flown this service to and from SFO many times over. You should’ve received warm nuts with a choice of drink, then an appetizer and salad, followed by another drink service, then your entree and fresh bread basket, another drink service, then dessert and or cheese plate, followed by coffee/espresso service and after dinner drinks. The snack basket is then placed upfront. Mid flight you should’ve received an offering from the basket and a warm cookie. Prior to landing sparkling water and citrus garnish. Looks like you received an express version of service. Usually a full tray like that was served on red eye flights.

As an Australian, it's unusual to have many 'long' haul domestic flights, with the East Coast to Perth being the only option (Which i'm yet to do). I flew the business class from LAX to JFK a few weeks ago and was really pleased with it. I'm flying First tomorrow from JFK to SFO and am looking forward to seeing what it's like. I was told February 1st was the day the service was to change back to some normality, so fingers crossed. Love your vids!

I've been on that flight... but way in the back. It's insane how such a small plane offers four classes of service. The economy cabin was hilariously small, and even pre-covid they did not offer so much as a bag of pretzels

I just popped across the Atlantic on AA46 from DFW to MAD. Took the same flight from Madrid a few months earlier. Those seats are a very sexy innovation on the International version. I have to say they do a damned good job and the minute you’re on the aircraft you feel like you’re home. I have to say that the food was OFF THE HOOK and some of the best I’ve had. You made me smile with the “before times” comment. So accurate. Just found your videos and I’m really excited to follow your journeys! BTW I had the Short rib on a flight too. Was a little different configuration but yummsville.

Nice take on American's top offering Jeb, seems like you are almost becoming a fan of your previously most hated airline ;). For better or worse not much has changed since 2020 on Flagship First from what you showed. There is noise of real glassware, multi-course meals, sundaes, and the real Flagship Lounge returning, I don't hold out a lot of confidence until that is an official announcement though!

Thank you for another really well done and as always pleasant video. I really have enjoyed your Amtrak reviews as well. I am in Saigon now under covid lockdown and so this is about the best and only way for me to travel. But as I am really happy in Vietnam it will be this way till Vietnam re-opens its borders for at least a year without issue. I grew up in New York and a trip to JFK or rather Idlewild as it was called when I was a boy was always exciting. Later I used to go there to watch the Concords take off and you could really feel the afterburners in your chest as they lifted up. I also enjoyed seeing the ever so cool looking IL62s that Aeroflot used on the Moscow route. I would later fly one to Moscow in the waning days of the Soviet Union. Anyway... thank you again and safe travels!

We recently took AA to Athens, Greece non-stop. We paid for the Premium Economy and the kit is the same as well as the food is presented in the same manner. We were offered a pre-flight drink. The seats are a bit wider and the pitch is much better. They do recline. I actually liked it. We paid the same amount for their main-cabin extra in 2019. Glad to hear some of the amenities of first class are returning! I do think the IFE's on American are a bit weak. Before COVID (2019): Flagship first had different entree choices, an additional soup course, multiple dessert choices, and different/enhanced wine list. Currently (Early 2021): Flagship first shares the same food and wine menu as business. The difference is you get a dedicated purser, plus the direct aisle access. The pre-departure beverage is not the norm. Also, the B&O headsets are awesome! The drawback is they do collect them 45 minutes before landing, but they let you have them longer in Flagship First. Additionally, AA's IFE is quirky. Instead of looping to the music playlist you selected, it would jump to the next playlist. Hence why I woke up to heavy metal music .

Very interesting Jeb. I just returned from an international trip in first class on Delta and KLM to and from Africa and you are spot on correct with regards to the lounge service. I found the service overseas much like it is in the US, spotty depending on where you are (in terms of amenities) but overall, it was ok. I'm not an AA fan having used them before. While I do travel often (Made diamond twice this year) I don't travel as much as you. I heard about that experience offered by AA but it really looks like Delta One to be honest, and I'd prefer Delta One given your review. However they where used bij only a few brands. I am amazed to see it on an American plane. Because these jacks where mainly used here in Europe. Especially Scandinavian countries, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Austria and Switzerland and not in many other countries. Not even in the UK. Safe travels my friend! Concerning the United First Class Experience one of the most important things for a long flight is your entertainment which United needs to be more proactive about making sure the product works with no problems, you should get free internet service for a first class flight with business class getting a couple of free hours and economy having to pay for this service and lastly a better lounge experience that should be just as good or better than their competitors.

Same experience with the lounge on both flights, better experience with IFE, but while the compartment was comfortable once inside, to get my 5'8 165' body with size 8.5 shoe between my seat and the one in front required the flexibility of a Cirque de soleil performer. Jeb I'm mechanic for American in Tulsa I've seen two of these birds come in for heavy checks , can definitely say i think the business class seats in 321T's are more comfortable than the first class seats. Really cool planes to see up and personal. Thanks for flying American!

also we recently converted all of our 737NG's to match the interiors of the Max we finished our last airplane in june. We are now modifying our 320-200 models to match the interiors of the NEO's. Big fan of the NEO's absolutely love those aircraft , cant wait to see the XLR's when they come out

@@a.k.6154 that’s very debatable. Delta one seats and United Polaris seats are better in my opinion. United flys the 787-10, 777-300ER, and 767-300ER with the new Polaris seats on routes from EWR/JFK to LAX/SFO. Delta flys the 767-400ER and A330-900NEO with the new DeltaOne suites from JFK-LAX.

Really enjoying your videos. 2 weeks ago we returned from Italy on the SFO-FRA-LIN route. We went over in the United 787-9 and returned on the 777-300ER. The food service on the return out of Frankfurt was very good.

this was really great, I have flown AA many times always in First class and can not understand why AA only does this type of service on certain flights. Although the lie flat option is not necessary on most domestic flight , the meal service you received should be on all long haul domestic flights and AA doesn't offer it!! Prior to COVID they did, so I know they are capable but they have just gotten sloppy!!!! Unfortunately they still charge a FIRST CLASS price!!! Sadly other then Hawaiian Airlines who still offers a premium First class experience , no other US domestic airline does!!! Nice job on this one!!
