With applying air pressure, a PET bottle can create an astonishingly clear and brilliant sound. The ingenious thing about it: The bottle is a sound generator and sound box in one. The higher the pressure, the higher the surface tension of the bottle and thus the higher the tone. Thus, a unique instrument, that invites you to pause and breathe deeply: the flairdrum
The tuning which has been chosen here is a pentatonic tuning A3 B3, Cis4, E4, Fis4, A4, B4, Cis5, E5, Fis5, A5, B5

Guuhhh this sounds so cool, I want to build one so bad but it's kindof expensive to start, I wonder if I could make one using broken bikes...

@@GreyFromSpace It's literally bottles. A piece of wood or plastic, a spade bit to get the lids thru. I figure the bottles could be tuned with little pieces of dry ice so they don't need the valve stem... Not as good but maybe then it could be but for about ten bucks or twenty bucks

This is amazing! I usually listen to hours long instrumental music when I'm working/studying and I'm sure a lot of people do. I love the sound of flairdrum but I can't find a video where I can listen to it for a long time at a stretch. It'd be great to have one such video for people like me to listen to :)

Great instrument. Currently I'm collecting some valves off used bike tubes to make one, and am curious of the construction of the metal frame. Do you have some sort of damper/spacer between the bottle lid and the metal frame its bolted to, and if so what purpose does it serve?

Hey. I'm happy you like it. Yes there is a blade out of rubber to deminish disturbing sounds. You can also find the lids I am using in my shop. Regards Damen

Is there some other instrument in the background? Something doesnt seem right.. theres like this high pitched xylophone sound and I cant tell where it coming from

Hey, In the cap there is a bicycle valve. You can pump the bottle up with a normal pump and give it the desired pressure. The more air pressure the higher the tone. Its quite easy to tune however you like.
