Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

I love where they placed this in the series. They show her taking a big risk that could have had a huge negative impact on her life, for a worthless "reward" - costume jewelry. Literal junk. And then they show her taking a way bigger risk with potential for a major negative impact on herself in that last season. And as soon as they said "necklace and earrings" I knew it was the one we'd seen the whole time, and that it had to be garbage. The gold is locked in the counter cases. It was a nice way to show she was fooling most of the other characters, and some of the views, into thinking she was committed to an upwardly mobile professional lifestyle when she wasn't at all.

I don't that she was fooling everyone the whole time. It was a constant conflict in her life to do the right thing, yet be drawn to the other way by her nature. It was the back and forth and changing good and bad tendencies between her and Saul which was the story here.

One of my issues with the show was how late into the show we finally learnt about Kim's upbringing... she is the co-star of the show and only the final season(s) we see flashbacks to why she is who she is... they should have been a bit more interspersed throughout the show's run imo

I think that revealing her past late in the story is meant to pull the rug to give us a whole new perspective on Kim’s character, “subverting our expectations” after we saw her as a “moral compass” for four seasons straight. But in the end, it doesn’t even matter because it went back to square one by putting Kim back to the pedestal as a moral compass anyway. Jimmy redeemed himself because of Kim. Jimmy, being a man-child that he is, will never learn to have a conscience by himself or even acknowledge that Kim is also responsible for Howard’s death as much, if not even more than him.

We already had our expectations subverted by the reveal of how much Kim got a huge thrill/high being bad with Jimmy by doing cons since season 2... that was a perfect time to show these reveals of her past, and serve no real purpose but to feel forced for hte last season... which does discredit to Kim as a character as a CO-STAR and arguably as popular if not more than Saul himself in his own show @@nont18411

@nont18411 You do know there is no evidence to go after Kim, especially that its been years since Howard's death. That's the whole point she confessed to Cheryl and why she is going after Kim with her lawsuit.

What’s even the point of making Kim’s hometown being Nebraska if in the end, Jimmy will never know she was from there and it has no payoff what so ever? I mean, Ed picked Nebraska for him. A state that was supposed to have some significance to Jimmy because it’s Kim’s hometown but in the end, it reveals that none of this matters because Kim’s already in somewhere else (Florida) anyway. Wouldn’t it make more sense if Kim was originally from Florida? It would fit more with her “symbolic punishment” of after all time in ABQ, Kim just got back to square one in the place she hates. Long story short: I’m not a fan of Kim being someone from Nebraska because it was there only to “subvert our expectations” and teased the audience about possible reunion between Kim and Jimmy that never happened. It leads to nowhere like Marie’s kleptomaniac plotline in Breaking Bad.

kim was supposed to be from a nowhere town, and nebraska fits the bill. the fact that jimmy also ends up there is simply a bit of irony from the writers. I don’t think there’s supposed to be a “point”

I thought it was there to give the two characters yet another overlapping experience in life. In many ways they were the same spirit with two different bodies. The story wouldn't have had the same impact if she was from a culturally different place with a different experience and accent than he was.
