I honestly think that casting Kevin Costner as Clarks father was one of the best things they did for this film. He adds such a level of "home" to Clarks back story.

I've always thought that showing his at times difficult relationship with his father while growing up trying to understand who or what he was really grounded Syner's Superman. He isn't just some alien dude in red underwear that saves people in dire situations. He's one of them who just happens to be capable of truly amazing things. And, of course it helps that Cavil is so damn handsome and looks exactly like you'd expect Superman to look like.

1:48-2:41 hits hard... I lost my older brother last year and ever since, this scene has made me cry. He always loved Superman and even wore the shirt to prove it. He was a firefighter, saved lives, was there for me growing up whenever I needed him, and he always believed in good and helping others... we would play superheroes in the yard as kids, and in my life, he really ended up being my biggest motivator and idol. This scene makes me miss that. This was a great film.

senseiofawesom1(carter) The crazy thing is that even tho Marvel has been better overall with their universe.....DC has the three best origin stories in comic book movie history. Man of Steel.....Wonder Woman.....and Batman Begins in that order are the top three origin stories ever. Even tho Batman Begins isn't part of the DCEU. But Marvel doesn't have a great origin story other than Iron Man 1 which was a great movie but all three of the DC films are better. The trinity rules at the end of the day. Nobody does origins like DC baby!!!

1:56 - 2:43 is my favorite scene in any superman movie. The subtle hits of the piano, Jonathan's expression looking at Clark, and the dog of course. Anyone who thought he was trying to hide Clark from the world needs to watch this again. He knows exactly who he's going to become, he just wants clark to grow into a man before bringing that much attention and responsibility to himself, like a good father should.. If you seek his monument, look around you.

stan broniszewski the thing is, Christopher Reeve will always be the definitive Superman, not only because of nostalgia, but also because he himself understood the character just as much as the writer’s of the movies had. This is very far from Zack Snyder’s take, which although realistic, is very far off from Superman’s core.

Tbh, I was working for Hans Zimmer when the film came out and even I thought the score was a little underwhelming ... but the more I listened to it, the more I sat in the atmosphere of this film and the quiet, inner strength Clark represents, the more I am convinced this and the Dark Knight are tied for best superhero film of all time.

You know people give the movie so much grief over the tornado scene. But here, you see Jonathan Kent being the first human being ON THE PLANET to see Superman as WE see him. His sense of purpose and being must have been rocked and inspired. Like I get it now; his mindset from that point forward must have been " My son is the real deal, he will lead them to greatness and I must do and give everything I have to help him reach his potential". A true father, Jonathan Kent.

And yet it's interesting that vs the 80's movies, the roles of Jor El and Jonathan Kent are reversed. Jor El's instructions to baby Kal were, "you must not interfere with human history". Jonathan's were, "I know you were sent for a reason!" In this movie, Jonathan says the same thing, but the meaning is the opposite: not a religious conviction but a hope that Clark's alien parents' purpose would be revealed. And Jor El's belief is that his son SHOULD interfere, and in fact that's the point: to guide and lead humanity. It still works, still makes sense, but it's an interesting reversal. And yeah this scene was badass.

I still come back to this last scene to see kid Clark Kent with the cape. Every time I get a sense of something greater than myself. Every. Damn. Time. I know that this is all fictional, but whenever I see that small kid already preparing to be a superhero (even if he's just playing around) combined with Hans Zimmer's amazing soundtrack, it gives me the sense that we are all capable of much more than we think we are.

@@Nauginaugi5 that doesn't mean it wasn't done too quickly. A death of superman story bears no weight if he dies in the second movie he's in because: a) he's integral to the JL being part of the trinity so i know he's coming back, lowering the stakes; b) he doesn't have the same stature in universe with the populace, evidenced by the debates about him and the hearing, meaning enough people distrust him enough that mourning him wouldn't suddenly be a worldwide event for someone that's only been around in public for a year or two; c) because he's only been around for a short period, the death hasn't been "earned" in terms of visibly dealing with planetary threats. Killing him off 2 movies in just tells me they had no idea how to really handle him over a combined movie universe.

the scene of him as a kid with the beautiful music almost makes me cry. I like to think about how lucky he was to land in the yard of a small town farming couple. If he had been raised by anyone else think of how much of a different person he would have been. Small town farm life teaches you respect and hard, honest work without personal gain. If he had been raised by rich snobs in the city who knows what kind of superman he would be.

I wonder who the people are that disliked it, and why... This one scene alone seems like a masterpiece. Of course the soundtrack and the general tone of the movie contribute immensely to the end result. That subtle look between Clarke’s adoptive parents after they see him in the cape makes me tear up every time, and I cannot explain why. I guess it’s that look of soft pride on the father’s face and the adoration in the mum’s smile that makes it so impactful. Great writing, direction, and execution there. I really wish Clarke had seen the look on his father’s face.
