I have been working hard on getting a flat bag and trying to improve other areas of my cornhole game. This short video goes over some of the things I have discovered to help make me a more consistent cornhole player and hopefully get me up a level or two when I get back to tournament play!
From my cornhole grip to my stance, I have studied a ton of youtube videos on how to play cornhole the right way!

One thing that has been really helpful for me lately is picking up the bags one by one rather than holding them during the through. It gives you a bit of a buffer to really think and focus on your next shot.

Enjoying your journey from here in the UK. Been throwing since January and steadily improving, unfortunately the weather here isn’t great for outdoor practice but I grab what I can. Like you I watch a lot of you tube, trying out what I watch but when I get on the court in competition, I revert to the same old stance, grip, release and inconsistency. I guess it will come together with practice eventually. Keep up the videos, really do find it good to see someone who’s developing and not at the top level yet. Thanks

Great video and love seeing your progress throughout the year! The thing that is helping me be most consistent with accuracy and a flatter bag, is my follow through. When I focus on following through and ending with my arm pointing to the target, everything else comes together.

NZ Noob here. Great tutorial, very relevant to me. Thanks dude! Been playing and often losing to my wife for a year or so. Our marriage has never been better lol. We throw Pro Snipers, O'Doyles, All-Slides, Fire (Vengeance and Incinerator) and Titan Fury bags. We are completely addicted and enjoy all things Cornhole. Many a laugh and many a late night. Husband and I have been throwing since early March of this year. We are pretty well even and accurate at 22 feet but widen that to regulation 27 and we both are wild throws. I do seem to get more airmail than he does when we play. 30 years of marriage and I love our evening wind down with bags and beer.

Been playing backyard for a little more than a year now. I always noticed one of my boards seemed faster than the other. It occured to me yesterday that the slant of the boards was probably different so I used a bubble level app on my phone to check. One board (the faster one) was at 8 degrees and the other was steeper at 13 degrees. I checked online and they should be 10 degrees so I adjusted both accordingly. So far it seems to be making a huge difference for me.

We have been throwing just a few months. What seemed to work for us was to start at 18feet distance and get flat bag and accuracy, then increase distance. It feels good to have wins in the backyard instead of frustration, and now we are accurate at 22feet. Husband and I will probably never go to a sponsored competition but we enjoy the game.

Great video, I've been playing for just about a year now too. Currently a 67spr but man you nailed the base and the golf references I also golfed a ton and I see similarities in the shot execution repetitively have a consistent shot have shots you need to work. Having a set up or pre shot routine. Nailed it bud keep up the good work.

Been throwing a bit shy of a year. I too have been practicing a lot like you have. Even referenced Tony smith too! One thing I enjoy trying is after getting a decently flat bag, is tilting it more or less when I want. Like a flat bag, next throw will be slight back load, next throw very back loaded, and then finish with flat bag. Helps unlock different shots.

I'm digging this channel! Keep it up. I've been throwing for about 3 weeks now since I got my bags and boards. Right away I started doing a daily Deca Round once I'm warmed up. My first Deca was a whopping 11. I'm already up to a 50 for my best, and averaging about 40-45. Long long way to go, but I'm learning. I'm noticing that standing tall, keeping my body quiet, relaxing, and eyes focused on my target is the key. I dont have a "trigger" but I do have a metal imaging routine. I hold the bag up to where its just below my target, and then on my back swing I imagine that I'm pulling back rubber band on line to the target, then I send it. I'm finding that the flat bag comes for me when I get a nice "snap" feeling at the end of my pitch, rather than mechanically trying to freeze frame my palm up release. Thanks for the killer videos

@@cornholenoob I'm enjoying rapid improvements now, but probably that will slow soon. I'm sure that going from an 11 deca to a 50 in three weeks is normal, but going from 50 to 100 might take a while

Been playing almost 3 years now and could not throw a flat bag until I changed to butterfly grip 8 months ago. I also struggle with palm to sky because of shoulder flexibility limits. I am non step, rt ft out rt hand throw. Still struggle with consistency but I feel I'm best when I get the palm as close to up as possible. Biggest problem for me is the "lazy" release. Good work on your videos. Bags look nice and flat! Best of luck!

Nice. Very few players are actually "palm to the sky" routinely. Many high level players are never palm to the sky. My mantra for release is "Under, not out." I should stay under and not behind the bag, if that makes sense. When my backswing bottoms out (hip-ish), I should feel my lower arm rotating with the momentum of my swing. The bag should release just past my hip. Consequently my follow-through is mostly palm to the sky.

thanks for your video's, humble and honest with what's working for you and what you struggle with, about all the same things i struggle with too:) only been playing a few months, i got a set of "real boards" from cornhole solutions, that has helped a lot. and just youtube videos. i wanted to ask how specifically do you practice?? meaning I see you got a couple types of bags your throwing. are you throwing different speed bags in a round by yourself? or a group of 4 at a time? thanks.

I feel like this video will help with my consistency bc I throw 3 baggers a decent amount sometimes but then I hit a slump I think bc I feel like I jerk my arm or don’t keep my arm close to my body or something and it gets to the point where I can’t even hit the board and it’s so frustrating

So i use a 50/50 grip like you. Ive tried others but nothing feels comfortable like the 50/50 but the problem is i cant fix throwing nose-down (front-loaded) to save my life, and its worse when i try to put some ass into it for a hard push. I can throw really flat with a butterfly but my accuracy is all over the place. Any tips for keeping the nose of the bag up? I feel like im not breaking my wrist on the throw and i am keeping my fingers up on the release so i dont know what to do.

Try a shorter backswing, I did that and it helped with accuracy

I try to practice keeping my shoulders square, I have a tendency of pulling my front shoulder out like I would when playing baseball that cause a grounder or a pop up. So my problem is my left shoulder will fly open and I throw the bags to left everytime.

Thats why recording yourself now and then really helps. A lot of times you don't even realize what you're doing.

@Cornhole Noob I def do, I notice when I do when my first 2 shoot to the left. Then I know I'm yanking my shoulder out. Or sometimes I feel myself pulling open instead as I say staying closed to throw straight. But yeah u need record myself more especially game times I don't ever record during games. Idk why either

Never throw off the same foot as arm, same rule in bowling. Let your arm swing free, don’t try to guide the bags or aim them. Release timing is probably the most over looked aspect. Same with basketball bad release will kill a shots potential. Lastly is arch, you don’t want to sky them but a nice height on your bags allow them to fall rather than skid.
