Hi everyone! In this episode, we travel around 9 hours one way to the fishing grounds, which makes for a long day but is well worth it. The rockfish are super hungry chomping on our hooks like crazy.
If you would like to place an order for halibut, rockfish, or cod, please visit our website at: eisalaska.com/

I used to love Sportsfishing for Rock Fish. Not only did dad make great homemade fish and chips, but we used to swap some with a restaurant for a Chinese Dinner for six. I caught them on fly rods and casting lures.

@@EISAlaska all my favorite eating fish are white flesh. Lingcod, Rockfish and halibut in no order. We caught a 69lb long back in 1969 I remember not just because of the crazy size but mom made the bed cod chowder just from the head alone. Our giant organic Garden kept us in potatoes. Dad put in a monster potato patch, I'm not sure how big it was but he grew several types of potatoes and it took me right or ten hours to hill the patch which I did three times, but nothing that took us time to fill our food stores and help out our neighbors, ever felt like work to me. Still loving how well you work together.❤️

That would possibly be the clearest water I have seen you fishing in, gentlemen. I had always thought that clarity was not the best for fishing; maybe the depth you fish at lessens the problem - if there is one. I was also wondering if the gore from freshly bled fish attracts unwanted big munching things when sluiced overboard. 🙂 Col, NZ
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 2 жыл бұрын
Thankfully no big munching things around here, other than halibut. The whales don't seem to take interest in rockfish and no great whites roam our waters, lol. The water clarity is interesting. It can change a lot over the course of a few days, and can go from murky to crystal clear.

We complain about the price of fuel for a little two hour sports fishing trip...A nine hour run, one way, your fuel cost most be over the top? You guys do a great job showing the fishing...I'd like to see the back end of everything, fueling, ice, provisions, unloading and selling your catch...
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Chuck. There are several videos where we include everything, from icing up to the offload. Sometimes they are spread out over a few videos. We are lucky the Fish Tale is really good on fuel, about 1.8 gallons an hour cruising. This trip we used about 50 gallons, cost was $325.

What’s the season on jogging cod and rockfish? Do you need a permit or is it open access ?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 2 жыл бұрын
Season opens Jan. 1st for both species and runs until the GHL (Guideline Harvest Level) is met. In the case of cod, it has been quite a few years since it has closed which allows year round opportunities for jig fishermen. Rockfish varies and often closes by late spring in many areas. It is managed by districts and each has it's own GHL. Cod on the other hand is managed Island wide. Both fisheries are open access.

What dictates how far you run to fish rockfish? Is it the need for a better grade of fish? Or do you have quotas for different areas that force you to move around? The black rockfish that you caught on this current trip to Sitkalidak Island (~ 9 hours running) appeared to be a lot larger on average relative to those that you caught on your previous trip to a location closer to Kodiak. Also, you seemed to be fishing in deeper water around Sitkalidak Island than in the very shallow water that you fished on the previous trip. Just curious wrt strategy when the rockfish fishing seems to be very productive just about everywhere along the coast. How many boats in Kodiak are jigging rockfish commercially?
