That's great mate, sails are a very effective way of equalising paddle speeds within a group (or a couple)!

Hi. I found you also need to add an additional centre sheet attached at the boom/mast join, then back down the centre to the cockpit and tied off. In a strong wind you can't pull the mast/sail down, e.g. using the sheetline, as this increases the amount of wind in the sail. Having another centre sheet allows you to let all the wind of the sail and then pull it down safely (in strong winds).

Would it be possible toa dd a close-up of the cordage you have tied around the mast? It looks as though you have don something clever there but it's not quite clear.

Thanks, very helpful. Bought one at NSW Rock and Roll. PS, where can you get the small carabiners you mentioned, the only ones I can find seem a bit big, e.g. M4 size.

Nice video, thank you. Would installing a tracking fin help point upwind?

Maybe, but it's a massive complication to a simple kayak, and no kayak sail really has any effectiveness upwind.

For the mast the center baee on the very bottom takes on the stress

Mark, what is the brand of the top loading cleats you are using? They look really good, but I think I will have to order them online.

Years ago, a cousin took me kayaking. Before he let me take it out, he made sure I knew how to roll it in case of capsizing. Is that no longer the accepted method? If it is, would the sail prevent that, or is there a breakaway feature? P.S. Maybe just a little clickbait in the title?

You simply lean forward, release the uphaul line and roll. No great problem, just a little practice and a calmness when you’re upside down.

@@MarkSundin Thanks! The first couple times I tried it, I did panic a bit, but you're right. Staying calm is the key.
