In this video, I show how I make a wax dop to the rock that will be cabbed (attach a dop stick to a rock slab from wax in a dop station). I found the silver with a metal detector at old mines. The turquoise was from Neal Foster, who has recently started a KZfaq channel.

@@meMiner You didn't need to tell me it was new, that was very obvious. I have the same model and it has worked well for me. Before that, I superglued cabs to a nail head. I'm sure you know this, but stick the cab and dop stick in the freezer for an couple hours to release the wax. Let it warm up when you take it out and sometimes it will fall right off. I just recently discovered that letting it warm after removing it is an important part of the process.

Noice, I Like. What! no Daisy. More wax on the vertical, better support and spreading the pressure. Shape, grind the shape then mark with an aluminium stick, put a line all the way around the outside, grind at an angle to the line then blend in the shape so it's one face, deep stones are better domed whereas the thinner ones are often better with just profiled edges and flat. I prefer lots of water, keep the grindings moving off the disc. Wish I were there with you, sending you some green wax soon, it's packed away in storage until I move, the scamdemic is really slowing things down.

@@meMiner If the pipe is good it might be a build up of Mineral on or around the valve, my first option would be a cocktail stick and poke the outlet, then check the other end, if clean water was used every time there should be no restrictions in the pipe. Is it plastic? I would out for copper, car brakelines are perfect in bore size for flow, if the valve is brass it can be soldered or use a threaded fitting. Plastic pipe last longer if put inside a spring, even if it is only the first few inches, if you need an adjustable feed then wind some soft wire around the plastic pipe, that will keep any bends in place, you may need that fixed at one end, taped or glued. Avoid kinks, Any pipe either plastic or metal will crease if bent more than 90 degrees, the crease is now restrictions the flow and the material is thinner on the crease line, a repair can be done using plyers, bit it's rarely as good as it was. Of course there are two other options, Option 1, The increased volume method, This is achieved by having someone assist you with a mains water hose, with a preference for someone you can trust. lol. Option 2, The permanant supply. This is very effective, although I do not recommend this myself, I have tried it in a former life but can't comment on how good it was as I don't remember anything before I found myself in a line of other people, some of whom had many injuries and seemed very unconcerned. You will need a higher amp fused supply for this, taking a large tub of warm water ( for your comfort,) power up your lapidary polisher and gently lower it into the tub of nice warm water, the higher amp supply will prevent the power from switching off, it will feel a little strange at first and make sure you dont follow the light like I did.

Do you reuse the wax once the cab is complete?
@meMiner
@meMiner 3 жыл бұрын
Yes. When done the cab, the rock, stick and wax go into a freezer and then the rock is snapped off by hand. The wax usually is left on the stick and can be crushed with pliers and back into the bowl.

Just watched again, God my life must be boring. lol. Kudos on the wax, just enough in the pot, Don't put much more than that in, the temperature looks perfect, no drips or mess. There may be times when you need much more wax for stronger support, just use a stick with wax on and dip it but don't stick it, dip again when it's set and dop your rock, shape the wax for more support and always taper away from the rock and in from the edge. Not good on that grinder, the water should be your next job.
