The combat chain is perhaps the most fundamental, core piece of Flesh and Blood. At a high level, it's easy to understand. But do you understand the small tricks/nuances that could cause you trouble at a tourney?

This is great. Maybe in an advanced discussion on combat chain we could cover when you want to choose to manually close the chain link, such as if you are following an attack up with another attack, but need the chain links closed so cards go to discard.

17:25 One thing to note about go again, if the combat chain closes before the attack resolves. Like when attacking with go again into a Spectra Aura, you will not gain an Action point. That is one of the differences between go again and having an action point, I'm sure there are more.

Great video, thank you for the video! One thing I like to say when explaining go again: it does not give you an action point, rather it refills the "permanent" action point you have, thus it's unstackable.

I've been playing for a while casually and I was confused on some intricacies of the chain and know that it's pretty essential to playing the game, even though it didn't *really* come up in a complicated way so far in playing. This is the first video I saw from ya'll and I really liked it. It was clear, it talked through the examples, and especially had visual and contrasting examples. Excellent. I was looking that it's series, and there's only a "Flesh and Blood" playlist with all the FAB content, which makes searching for things cumbersome. I assume it's not tenable to be able to have different playlists for one game but I'd like it if it were possible. Thank you!

Awesome video and well done! We've had several conversations about this in my play group and were still struggling with it. You just made life easier. As an edit I would change the way you describe "Go Again". It does not give you an additional action point, if that were so you could stack for multiple, what it does is 'refreshes your last action point'. Where as cards that give you an action point can stack on a current action point, go again cannot. Just an easier way to avoid future confusion in my mind.
@DiceCommando
@DiceCommando 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate it much!!! It's actually a common misconception that Go Again 'refreshes' vs. gives another. From the rules: 20.8.3a If the attack has go again, its controller gains 1 action point. If the attack is no longer on the combat chain, last known information is used to determine whether the attack has go again for the purpose of chain link resolution. Go Again as a keyword simply cannot be stacked: Go again ¨ Go again is a keyword effect that means “When this action resolves, gain 1 action point.” ¨ Go again does not add a layer to the chain. It’s a resolution effect. ¨ An action with go again that is played as though it were an instant, still gives its controller 1 action point when it resolves. ¨ Multiple instances of go again on the same card or activated ability do not stack.

As a Katsu player id love to know a little bit more about how the chain and chain links interact with combo. For instance, if i play surging strike, then nimblism to boost my next card with combo (whelming gustwave), then play whelming gustwave, does that break my combo? Love you vids, keep at it!
@DiceCommando
@DiceCommando 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, thanks for the positive feedback. Yes, playing a non-attack action (such as Nimblism) does indeed break your chain. You'll notice your combo cards say 'if XXXX was the last attack this combat chain, then YYYY" - which means that a) you can't break the chain and b) you have to play them sequentially. Best of luck!
@CalebS92

Just making sure I'm understanding corretly. Action cards will break the chain link. Reactions don't (since they are played in the link), and attacks, and weapons don't. Would that mean that allies break a chain link?
@DiceCommando

Allies will not break the chain either, no. It's if you don't do an attack. So a Ravenous Rabble into ashwing into Blaze Headlong into ashwing is all one chain still.

What a great video!! I'd just like to confirm that I got it right. As weapons never actually enter the Kombat chain, I can continually attack with them (not forgetting pitch and action points) without having to somehow manually close the combat chain? For example I thought that after every attack with dawnblade, I'd have to play an action to close/break the chain and have dawnblade back in the weapon slot. That would be wrong as it never actually was part of the chain. It only launched an attack which then created a chain link. right? Thx

And can I pool them at the final go again to play a card cost of 2 or 3 as the final link in the chain?

Today I was wondering: does go again stack if it just gives you an additional action point, as you said? Or does a go again action point fizzle, if go again is attached to your next action card which already come with its own go again?
@DiceCommando
@DiceCommando 3 жыл бұрын
This is a great question! So, 'Go Again' does not stack - if you were to give a single card 'Go Again' twice somehow, it would still only produce one additional action point. However, if (as in your question) you have 2 action points, and play a card with 'Go Again' (which produces another action point), you would still have two actions points. For example, as in the "quiz" situation at the end of this video, if he 'Rising Solartide' were to get 'Go Again', you would still have two action points (and could ultimately play another card after 'Push the Point'.

Do you think these concepts have actually affected the meta? IE ball lightning being misused in game A LOT - b/c you know briar is swinging a non-attack to get thorn damage turned on. I havent watched competitive videos close enough to be sure these rule werent broken by briar players (I've certainly broken this rule as birar w/ ball) and based on some of what we've seen the judges are still learning the rules too, so no blame on them for missing this nuance (we all have at some point for sure!). More importantly, and opponent wouldnt even think to call a judge about it... how many briars snuck in wins that were illegitimate in competitions I wonder?

@Senjutsuka

@@DiceCommando well if you ball into a nonattack you lose ball's bonus on any further attacks right? It only effects the rest of an attack chain. So I'm guessing a lot of ppl have played it, a non, then another attack and assumed that extra damage worked. (I definitely have). It's a number one card called for banning and I bet a lot of what people think makes it 'broken' is actually just misplays people didn't realize were misplays.

From what you're driving at, yes you're correct. It does not count as an ACTION card. Say you play a non-attack that gives your next attack action card +3, then swing your hammer w/ go again, and then play your attack action.... the attack action will get the +3, not the weapon.
