I think its a bit gimmicky but hitting hair & flesh is way softer than cardboard and plastic. I would imagine it drops closer on actual animals. That said, I’ll stick with fletching.

I think at an animal it would stay closer to point of impact because it won't have the same resistance as a pressured bottle. Just a thought

The FOB is an air foil. Its meant to quickly stabilize the arrow's flight and increase accuracy especially in windy conditions. FOBs fly great even if damaged. No specialized equipment needed to install FOBs as is required for vanes. Been using them for years and completely satisfied. The popped off FOB gives me a general direction to start looking for blood.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but drill the FOB out, meaning remove the narrow spot so it fits directly on the shaft. Move it in about 1-1.5" so it is away from the nock. Put a few drops of fletching glue on the front face of the FOB to hold it to the shaft. It will hit and still pop off when you hit an animal/etc, but will stay on when shooting normally. Plus it leaves the nock on the arrow(if your using lighted nocks then you can find the arrow easier). doing this will also avoid the string pinch you are getting when you draw the bow back, you can see the string touting the FOB. It will also cure the face pressure you are getting and causing you to push the arrows a bit to the right. Believe DIY outdoors or something like that has a video up on this as well.

Nice honest review. A piece of plastic traveling faster than 140 fps (95 mph) is popped off the back of an arrow. Yup, it won't fall straight down, that energy has to be spent.

A nice feature is you can take off the fob replace the nock and have a bare shaft to shoot to see how tuned your arrow is from time to time. Of course only with field tips. I like fobs. You tear up a fletch and you got a mess/ work to replace it. I damage a fob and or nock I just replace them with spares I got in my pocket.

Just a few things to consider, an animal probably will not have the rebound factor of cardboard and plastic, and hitting the very left side of the round Coke bottle caused the directional flight of the FOB rebound. That being said, you have joined bowhunting in the last few years whe everybody had gone to carbon arrows and click-in nocks so you get no damage from the popoff. My bow is 25 years old because all the new tech could not improve my results.My 31 inch aluminum arrows got incredible penetration( although one only got 10 inches out the off side of a mule deer after shattering the spine). The drawback for me would be popoff on a whisker biscuit and the destruction of a glue-on nock. They will be great for you and more up to date archers, and I won't bother you anymore.

Thank you Allie for testing further answering the question I asked about the nocks...Thats great news...As to what happens with a live animal my guess is it may not pop off as far due to a plastic bottle is harder compared to the "softness" of the turkey or deer...Cant wait to see what happens there...

As usual, a fun video to watch. I enjoy your enthusiasm for the outdoors and archery. Generally, my arrow (with fletching/vanes intact) is marking the spot where I hit the deer; but I always hunt from my climber so I am above the game.

I think it flew so far was because of the material surface. I think it will drop closer to the animal cuz it's softer. I wanted to see a comparison in accuracy. I thought you were gonna do that when you pulled out your vane fletched arrow. I found your videos interesting! Thanks!

Interesting video! I’d be more interested in how it stabilizes broadheads at longer distances!? I feel like that’s what they were built for? I’ve heard a lot of people talk smack about them but nobody’s really proved them inaccurate or unreliable. Love your content!🙌🏼😬

I would try shooting flat bag targets that stop the arrows without pass- throughs. Also putting something in front of that bag target that is dense would be a nice follow up test

It seems like it could serve as a good back up fletching while out hunting because of how easy they are to put on. “Ah one of your fletching rips or pops off while stalking, just take the rest off and pop that sucker on.” Some sort of visible tape might be a good idea anyway now that you mention it. I’ve seen some other fletching systems pop off as well that weren’t supposed to and it made finding that arrow difficult. Other reasons as well so I might try that idea regardless of FOB or not.

I shoot 100 yards with them with no accuracy problems. I do shoot a low profile mechanical broadhead with them but they literally fly like a laser. Longest kill shot is a double lung spot and stalk shot at 114 yards on a coues whitetail. They are the real deal for stabilization

If you do a little digging you'll find they have much more drag than regular blazer vanes. Also, they are noisier than regular fletching.

based on you tests i bet itll come off inside a deer. think about the size of a hole a broadhead would make, not to mention expanding mechanicals. the cardboard may resemble a deer more so than the 2 liter. regardless, i dont think the fob would fly as far if disconnected on impact. so many varibles like bone, paint on arrow?, ect. :)

allie i think it bounced off with the coke bottle cause it was plastic. i think if you shoot towards the fur of the animal it wouldnt bounce. the target is also not fur and it caused it to bounce. id say to shoot at similar texture as an animal. idk...just wondering

Glue your target arrows. The bottle was tightened up with compression making the fob pop off harder. Leave hunting arrows unglued.

My 2 cents..... I have been using FOB's for 6 years now on coues whitetail and javelina in southern Arizona. Arrow stabilization is amazing for long distance shots, that said, you will notice a very slight loss of trajectory as the FOB averages 24.5 grains where a traditional 3 fletch blazer comes out about 18 grains. You will have to resight especially for longer shots that you take. I shoot 100 yards with the FOB's with no issue accurately on both targets and animals. As far as the pop off discussion goes, they do come off the back of the arrow. They do not break on impact. They do not break your nock. They will mark the point of impact within a couple feet because as it hits the hair on an animal it is basically stopped in place. I have done similar pass through tests myself and found that with a hard surface like your coke bottle the FOB is still spinning as it comes off the back of the arrow and tends to launch out from the target. The soft side of an animal absorbs that and it does almost just drop straight down. If you have to have your arrow back throw a wrap on it and it will be easier to find later. Personally if I take a shot at an animal and never get that arrow back it was money well spent for the memory. Try it on a hunt you won't be disappointed.

Don't know for sure but I know that mossy oak neon green nocks reflect (not floresence) uv light. If you wait till dark and use a good uv flashlight it might jump out at you. I'm just going to use light contact glue to attach to arrow. My final thought,.... That poor coke bottle.

I’ve seen on iTube guys put a thin coloured yarn in the arrow and to the nock with a small drop of glue and just follow the string

I think that I would rather have the brightly colored fletching on my arrow to help me recover the animal. I know where I shot the animal at. Also I love lighted nocks, and having them fly off kind of defeats the purpose.

Ohio Artifact Dude also, luminoks wouldn’t be able to work because instead of contacting the conductive graphite shaft it would have a plastic insulator (fob) in the way. I’m with you on this one. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it 👊

Another thing to consider is that the FOB is going to hit an animal with considerably less energy that it hits a coke bottle or carboard box, since the arrow is going to lose a lot of speed while penetrating the animal.

Just a thought, could you test it on shooting through carpet or a blanket or something that wouldn’t give it as much bounce back? Also, could you test it shooting through grass or brush? That’s where I would be concerned about the pop off. It’s a neat idea, but I think I’ll stick with fletching as well ☺️

But when they hit an animal, the hide, flesh and hydrostatic action will absorb the shock and it will not ricochet and will fall straight down.

Definitely they will just fall straight down on a deer. But, wouldn't it almost be impossible then to find the arrow, it now not having nice bright fletchings or lit nocks to locate? Being able to easily find my arrow and broadhead are more important to me, i think. These would have to drastically improve accuracy to really be attractive.

Shoot a pork chop see what happens. Great videos. I've used them before I like them . But I hunt with regular flites. Idea use finger nail polish to color your arrows so there visible while using fobs.

Fur and soft tissue are softer and would think give you a different result. Even with a brightly colored wrap, if the arrow snakes through leaf/pine litter, I would think that it's going to be brutally difficult to find. Also, you more than likely have a distance of your target while archery hunting. If that FOB isn't within a couple feet, wouldn't it be almost useless?

A couple things to mention for those who don't know enough about these. Allie's test is not proper for what these are designed to do. Her first shot was in the top of the cardboard box that clearly folded as the arrow past thru it.. not a proper shot. If she would of shot in the flat of the box the results of the FOB location following the shot would of been more favorable. The second shot, the bottle. She shot a pressurized vessel made of plastic. Of course the FOB will be trajected in whatever direction it sees. Lastly, these are made for shooting a fixed blade broadhead. These without a doubt work better than standard fletching. As a user of these FOBs and someone who actually has shot a bull elk with one, they work very well and guess what.... The FOB I used was directly at the point of impact on my elk. These work exactly as they are designed to do. Are they for everyone and every hunt, no. I just thought the test was not the best but appreciate the time and work she put into it

I would be interested in seeing a test with something more consistent with a animal like a thawed out Turkey or some ballistic gel wrapped with a hide. I feel the coke bottle had to much spring to it, especially with the coke under pressure.

Had some fobs didnt like them . I will say though its a waste of meat but u should shoot threw ribs of a beef or short ribs u would smoke and eat . It does work u should try did it and wow think u would be impressed with the results

Just a hypothesis. I believe it will not pop off the end of the arrow once it has penetrated the targeted animal.(assuming the arrow does not go entirely through),Then off course if the animal runs off with the arrow in it, it could pop off from getting caught on something. As per your experiment If a living cardboard critter is encountered and arrow targeted. Expect your theory to reign supreme.

What about painting the top of the arrows? I think either the tape or paint would wear off the paint might have less friction,however are you really concerned about friction with an arrow traveling at those speeds? I don’t know just something to think about I guess.

I cringe when I see her draw the bow with her shoulder muscles only until near the back wall when she finally engages her upper back.... it's a stealthy way to draw but it is terrible for the shoulder

Try shooting it through some shag carpet. Off the top of my head that seems a better analog than a box or a shaken coke bottle. That being said, ive never used them, i like the whisker buscuit.

I have shot a deer with the FOB and it dropped at the point of impact. The soft skin and tissue absorbed it a little and it dropped. You were shooting hard objects that had a rebound effect, just an observation. Just curious to your draw length and bow poundage. My daughter is shooting the same bow and loves it. What’s the difference in drag from the fob to standard fletch? Maybe set a target at 70 to 100 yards and use a consistent aiming point to see the difference in drop from set up to set up?

The FoB is way louder than the blazer vanes and those are loud vanes. I feel you are increasing risk for an animal to jump your string.

The bottle is a bad test. a coke bottle is a bouncy surface to begin with and with the pressure of the coke blasting out the hole I'm not surprised it got launched. You need to hit something with a furry surface.

Could you test in a strong cross wind? To see if the arrow is pushed sideways by the wind more/less/the same as fletchings?

I don't get it. Does it not hit the bow causing it to fly off. as in the feathers will flatten as it passes the bow.

The test does not seem relevant in my opinion. If you could shoot hide of an animal or a softer rug with a similar texture and density. Shooting cardboard is brittle and obviously meet the density of an animal. Then even worse with the coke bottle. Shooting it with that speed, it would be like throng a bouncy ball of concrete. It’s going to fly, if you through a ball at a hide with a profile of a real animal. The hide/fur would absorb the back shot and I bet the product would do as intended. I think this would be a far superior method to see true results. I would be interested to see the results of such a test to.

Outdoors Allie not trying to be hard as I do like the videos. I would really like to see what this product did with an animal like texture result. Like a 3D target with hide or fur thick enough to mimic. It’s a neat product if it’ll work as they say. Thanks

You have to have a lot of clearance & a drop away rest to shoot these things & if shooting through any kind of branches or brush forget it. I use feathers that are the most forgiving of course, these fobs have a place I guess ? but not for me in hunting
