FLEX RECIP SAW BATTLE! FLEX vs MILWAUKEE M18 FUEL SUPER SAWZALL

NEW CHANNEL NAME! Can the Flex 24V Brushless reciprocating saw edge out the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Super Sawzall? Or is it another disappointment? NOTES BELOW
Note 1: Wood w/ nails was performed with ORBITAL MODE on for both saws.
Steel bar stock and threaded rod were done with orbital mode off for both saws.
Forgot to include that in the video, been a long day!
Note 2: Yes, the blade looked worn on the first run of the M18. I had a "false start" where I got about 1/3 through the rod and it came loose from my clamps. So the blade did have that wear on it, plus the bar stock. It may have hurt the M18's performance a bit. I am always trying to improve and will take note for next time!
Note 3: I think the M18's bad wood run was due to being at the edge of a knot, seen in the second camera shot.

Just a few things. 1. You need to Secure the testing material better then the plastic bench and vices. The material is bouncing all over. 2. Stamp time 4:58 you start the Milwaukee out with a used blade not a new blade like you started the flex that’s makes a huge difference
@PhillyFixed

Thanks, Anthony. You're right about the bench, I am building my workbench which will also serve better for tests like this. On the all-thread, I had a false start with the M18, the thread came loose from my clamps. So I cut about 1/2 way through the rod and then had to re-try my first run. I'll make sure to have spare blades on hand in the future. Thanks for watching!

By far the most "real world" tests I've seen!!!! Too many people crying about the material moving and vibrating. But hey, when I'm under a vehicle and need to cut metal away, I can conveniently take the whole thing to a secure clamping device and have solid, vibration free, perfect world scenarios time after time 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 .... The flex dominated!!! That's impressive especially knowing that the Milwaukee is an absolute beast of a saw!!!! No fan boyism here, no nut huggery! Nobody makes the "best everything" , if they did, there'd be no competition. Please keep the imperfect wobbly tests coming!!!!! Those of us who actually use tools, greatly appreciate it!!!!!!

@@fender10g Yea, it's like how metal cutting circular saws have around half the RPM of regular circ saws and the blades are rated for about half the RPM also. When the carbide teeth on the blades are taken beyond how much friction and heat they can withstand, they wear out much faster when cutting through the same amount of material.

Great videos! Thanks for the solid content. I'm thinking the inconsistencies in the grain direction/density of the wood is to play. ADVICE: pick straight (ish) grain wood with no significant grain direction anomalies or knots. Those areas are generally much harder and can steer the blade in a warped and difficult kerf.

Just found your channel. Great stuff so far! Keep it up! I don't know if anyone mentioned this but the shoe pivot on the Flex is in a bad spot. It should be just below the contact point of the blade, like the Milwaukee. That is why the work surface was jumping around, mainly when cutting the metal pieces is when it is noticeable. Hopefully they will fix that because it is an easy way for someone to get bit by the saw.

Great video. Again your editing is top notch. I would have liked to see a little more digging into what happened on the 3rd wood run with the M18. It look like more of a blade issue rather than the sawzall itself as it picked right up again when you switched blades in the next test. I know you are trying to keep it real world as possible but if it wasn’t for that one 18 or 19 second run the M18 would have won overall. Just my thoughts thought. Again, great video, keep it up.

Nice comparison! I think the other KZfaqrs “may” have been a bit miffed because they got review tools sent to them and were under NDAs. You bought yours so no holding back! As I said before, it’s great to have competition, but for Flex they will have to offer something more to entice current and new consumers over to their tools. That has to be either better price and/or better value AND an out-of-the-gate range of tools. I’m in the homeowner/DYI projects category and looking to see what line will be best for me in price, range and power when I may need it. I love the Skil PwrCore 12 and 20 tools for their decent performance and excellent value (also Chervon) but the range is small so Ryobi is a better fit, or buy DeWalt or Milwaukee when the deals are there. It will be interesting to see what Flex offers tomorrow! Thanks again!

@@PhillyFixed Yep, it always comes down to cost! I do have a corded Bosch miter saw, and an older Ryobi table and circ saw (very heavy) going back to when we redid our kitchen, flooring and other projects. When it comes to a hammer drill & impact drive comb kit yes, I’d like the power in those while still being compact. (The main reason for the hammer drill is in the garden using a planting auger to dig holes in our clay-like soil.) But for other tools, multi-tool, jigsaw and a saw circ saw a 12-v system would be fine for finish work and so on. (I would like to also get a 1/4” compact router, pin nailer and a few other things eventually.) And there in lies the rub and finding one brand that offers all of that at a decent price. Thanks again!

One thing I’ve seen a lot of people not take into consideration is when a Flex tool is going up against another brand the competitive tool is usually highly used. I have several Makita and Milwaukee tools that still work great but don’t have the power they did when new. Especially impact drivers or wrenches. A fair stand off would be new tools going against Flex tools since they are brand new in USA.

The last 2 M18 wood cuts, look at your board. It started to come lose and moving side to side, severely hampering the back and forth cutting of the saw.

Great work. With regard to the Milwaukee stalling out the one time. It appears the cut angle was not at a 90 for the blade, which is not a big issue in of it self. However, the it appear you were also pulling the tool to the side as well. These two factors will bind the blade. Take a look at it. You’ll see how the saw body is off center from the cut angle. Keep up the work.

Only problem I can see with this test (on everyones channel) is it’s never taken into account that the weight of each tool is likely different at the blades contact point regardless of having an equal amount of external weight tied to the shoe. I’ve never read or heard anyone mention that.

@phattacorider

Here's my thing with Sawzalls. The blade is what really makes the cutting difference between the tools. Otherwise, noting their mechanical specs could be the buying drive for people, such as strokes per minute, stroke length, and battery run time per given capacity battery. Personally, flex hasn't offered anything so substantial in performance that I'll ditch my milwaukee and ryobi tools. Ryobi has great, cost effective tools that do the job. Milwaukee has probably the best line of tools available in both m12 and m18 variants. Flex may expand over time, but seeing what they're made of so far, I'm not impressed.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 3 жыл бұрын
Great assessment. The Flex is a good sawzall, for sure. Low vibration. But, I don't think it's anything so special that someone should jump battery platforms.

Looking at the grain of the 4x4 where the Milwaukee bogged down you can see it went from parallel to the blade to perpendicular. When there's a change of direction in the grain there's usually more density associated at that point. It looks like both tools did a good job, but I think more than anything we all want to know longevity. Since we can't do that with a new brand of tool, dismantling, inspecting and comparing build quality to top rated brands might be more appropriate. I guess what I'm trying to say is, is this a premium build saw or is it just a black saw instead of a red one made by Skil.
@PhillyFixed
@PhillyFixed 2 жыл бұрын
Now that it's been out for a year and seen some use, I'd definitely categorize it as a premium build saw.

Again , messed up test. You are using 2 clamps to hold the wood on m18 and one clamp on flex. The wood is shaking and moving, vibration is huge and I don’t know if you know that, but that makes huge difference in cutting time.

Actually, if anything I used undersized batteries on this because Lowe's had sold me the Flex kit before they were supposed to (tools not released yet) and I only had the 2.5aH battery. The M18 was the 3.0 High output, but still only a 3.0.

The reason why the milwaukee is cutting slower is because the blade is moving too fast, you'll have to put more pressure on it. When cutting its importing to use correct blade, speed, and pressure. A slower moving blade on metal can cut through it faster at the right amount of pressure
