Deer Hunting 2015 Flintlock Muzzleloader Period Hunt. Follow John Royer as he hunts western Pennsylvania in early 1800's frontier dress. John is trying to portray a western Pa frontiersman from the early 19th century. John is using a TVM .50 Cal flintlock muzzleloader made by Matt Avance. John is loaded with 75 grains of 2F GOEX black powder and .015 thickness pillow ticking patch with lead roundball. John is wearing a walnut dyed hunting frock with a 100% wool blanket worn as a matchcoat. John kills a deer on film in the late deer hunting season in clarion county Pennsylvania.

Vous nous raconter une belle histoire, dont la persévérance et l'éthique du chasseur sont les héros. Une histoire sans paroles que tout le monde peut comprendre... Un récit historique romancé emprunt de vérités qui font du bien. Merci pour ça. Thank you for this.

You guys are living the life! I can see that you boys had great teachers. I live in Southwest Virginia, and you would be surprised at the number of kids that don't hunt or fish. This used to be a rite of passage when I was a boy. Too many young kids today are being trapped by computers and television; and I hate to say it, drugs! One of the greatest highs that one can get is being in the woods, and watching the sun rise, and turkeys coming down from their roosts, and listen to the rest of wildlife come alive. I love your work ethic, and respect for what the Good Lord has given to us, to be good Stewards of!

This is a super hunt! I know the amount of work that went into capturing this video and appreciate the hard work it took to get it to turn out this good. That was around a three minute standoff for your shot, great patience! I haven't seen one like this and enjoyed every minute of the hunt. Clicking video now. Great stuff.

After three years of watching you tube this is my first comment ever. What a great video John . Don't worry about the rubber boots if they had them they would have worn them too. Our hunting season wasn't as good as yours,seen deer but no shots. We hunt by the Pa. Grand Canyon.on 44 acres. We have to still hunt if we drive we chase the deer off our property.

Great video. My season last year did not end like yours. My reality moments was twice on two deer with my English fowler I had flash in the pan. That's completely on me ..... Flint lock hunting has so many things that have to go perfectly or all you do is show the critters and puff of smoke as they gently trot off. The period clothing adds immensely to the video.

Thanks! Yeah, I was really unsure about putting that much walking around and the long sneak before I shot. But, since alot of people like to know how I do it and what it takes to sneak up on deer, I decided to show the whole thing. I wanted this video to be a bit shorter but I had a hard time trying to figure out what to do on the editing table so I just left it all in.

I just picked up a Traditions Tennessee .50 that was lingering at my local gun shop, no one wanted it because it's a flintlock and no shop around here sells blackpowder because of the hazmat fees so I had to finally found a place that will let me order some without a huge minimum. Can't wait to try that out and if it works the way I want it, would love to take a whitetail this fall. I used to work with a man who hunted and killed a whitetail once with a matchlock musket. To me that would have to be the hardest of all considering.

I love deer hunting with my flintlock, but I just never could wrap my head around dressing the part of an 18th century hunter. To each his own I guess.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
@Leatherwoodoutdoors 9 жыл бұрын
well, I , at one time, thought the same thing. What changed was when I read about the history of the flintlock in america from a hunters perspective. It gave me a whole new mindset on how important a flintlock was. I then realized that men in the 18th and 19th century were more of a hunter than I could ever be in a lifetime. It was all they knew and they had to know to in order to survive. Thats when, by inspiration by a few fellow flintlock hunters, I decided to see for myself what it was really like just to spend a day wearing just what they did back in those times. Those men were not just hunters, they were people trying to make a living in a new land. It feels more rewarding and also challenging that way also. I cant really see myself going back.
@TheNickathome
@TheNickathome 9 жыл бұрын
***** I am not knocking your choice to dress the part. Forgive me if you may have thought that. However, its just not a choice that I'd make. I have always loved the guns of the colonial period, but the clothing never attracted my attention.
@Leatherwoodoutdoors
@Leatherwoodoutdoors 9 жыл бұрын
Nickathome Smith I didnt take it that way at all. I wasnt making a rebuttal. Just sharing my thoughts. I wouldnt knock anyone if they did or didnt. Its all on preference really. Doesnt make me any better of a hunter than anyone else. Hope you keep having fun with the flintlock. Thats what its all about no matter how you dress. Having fun making meat is the goal.

Well, not everthing I am wearing is 100% period correct. Last season I switched to more of a work boot that looked a bit more realistic but footwear in winter is really not ideal for reenacting. I get away with it in the videos. Although, I still plan to get closer each season but its tough to find stuff.

@JasonWeaver-qx5nx
@JasonWeaver-qx5nx 7 жыл бұрын
Like anything else, depends on lots of factors. Many people would never recommend shooting round ball at a bear. But a Minne ball, sure. Also the grain of the bullet and the amount of powder used will affect the outcome. In short, high powder load with a minne or maxi ball, definitely. High powder load with round ball, yes if you're a good shot. Anything low powder and you're looking to just piss it off.
