Deer Hunting 2024. John Royer hunts the very last day of the statewide pennsylvania flintlock whitetail deer season in clarion county. John sees lots of deer including a good 8 point in one of his foodplots. John also sees a set of big bear tracks. At the end john checks his trail camera and finds the big buck he saw in rifle season is still alive!

@@Leatherwoodoutdoors2 no, you are the one who deserves the, *THANK YOU, Mr. John!!* It bums me out not seeing the “whole gang,” and commraderie that I grew up watching and my friends and I would often immitate lol. I will never forget winter of 2015, being seated in a boring college seminar and opening the FB app and upon “ refreshing the feed,” the first post I saw was you in front of the “Big 10,” that you rightfully earned, and trying to restrain myself from jumping up in front of around 100-115 other students in joy, as if my fav team scored a winning touchdown or something!! 😂 If anything I’ve learned from you and a few others over the years Johnny, it’s patience, letting the younger 2.5-3.5 y.o. “symetrical, gorgeous genetic” 6, 8, and even 10 pointers walk, especially late, towards end of season. This way, in the early fall season, it makes it easiest to pick off the bigger/biggest ones usually within first week during “magic/prime-time hour” (5:30pm-6:30pm) lol. Good luck and I hope to see you take that big giant as an even bigger buck come this season, w/ maybe even the bow, giving you your 3rd P&Y. If you ever want to come and hunt central-northern, NJ or upstate, NY, just give me a shout out. I owe you one at the very least!

Congratulation on your expanding family! Life does get busy but it is worth it. Next week I am heading out for a nuisance cow elk hunt in Alberta with my son. 35 years ago who would have thought that would happen. Everyone enjoys Eviana,s hunts and before you know it you will get to share these times with your own children. Sharing the time is what it is all about and we truly appreciate you sharing your hunts with us. Looking forward to shed season.

I'm looking forward to fall of 2024. I got one deer. Thought it was a doe, but it was a broken rack 3 pointer. Wanted to hunt late archery with my crossbow, but it rained and I caught a cold. At my age, I won't push a bad position. Better wait for next season.

I like that quick loader with 2 patched balls set up. I haven't hunted with a flintlock or percussion cap, only the inlines. Trying to get there. 🙂

Yeah I know a few guys in PA who claim they started finding sheds the last week of December, and that blows my mind. Like you said that's not really good, means the deer are really unhealthy.

John, congrats on the little one !! I was wondering when you were put out a video I really like the flintlock hunts in particular my custom build should be done soon and hope to head that way next season for the late seasons in New York and PA I really miss hunting all the time so I guess watching your videos keeps me anxious to get back at it I just turned sixty this year and when I retire I plan on the late season trip every year God willing !!

I always started at 75 gr of 2F , and go up 5 gr at a time to 100 gr, and use whatever gr amount of powder that groups best. Never failed me

I bought a pair of "Bear Paws" from Crooked Horn Outfitters 5 yrs ago. Everyone laughed at me but that crunchy snow and leaves...no noise. I don't think they're around anymore. Great product, I still have them

My son shot an ancient old buck that had already shed his antlers the last day of Pennsylvania rifle season. He definitely was going downhill fast. Teeth worn down to nothing.

Do you guys hunt bear? I don't recall seeing any bear hunting videos. I took one in 2019. I casually hunt them but try to get out every season for a hunt or two at least.

Some of the guys do hunt bear but it's very hard to film. We've tried in the past with no luck. We hunt were there aren't many bears. Would be a different story if we traveled to north central pa. Maybe some year we will get one on camera.

I moved it out of the logged area where I saw the bear tracks and moved it to the opposite side of the property. I didn't have time to set it up so I just left it there. I'll put it up somewhere this summer.

Hey John. Just curious why u said it’s a bad sign if bucks are dropping antlers on January ?

Any deer dropping antlers in January or earlier is an indication that your deer heard is in poor health. Most likely your bucks are showing signs that they will not have optimal antler growth to reach thier full potentential the following season because of one of the following; stress, malnutrition or disease or a combination of those.

Not for the late season. It's archery and flintlock muzzleloaders only. Your max range with a flintlock is about 50-60 yards.

Not in late season primitive weapons / flintlock in pa. Inline and percussion cap muzzleloaders are not allowed. Flintlock and archery only. I hunted the late season for years. Very few hunters and with primitive weapons shots are generally limited to 50 yrds or less. So orange is not required.

Public land is a lot different then the private you hunt. Give it a go sometime. You might start respecting us that hunt the big woods and shoot bucks along with those guys that are proud of a legal buck. PS- can’t do much if the public land bucks are dropping their antlers now.

oh, i respect the public land guys. they kill more and bigger bucks than I do. I already got a spot picked out several years ago in the ANF to try out some year in late season when i get time. just to put my skills to the test.

In that movie Bambi, you hunters are portrayed as villains, it gets scary, even the hunting dogs in the movie, a lot of kids must have hated you hunters after that movie. Disney will soon release live action Bambi, and the hunters will once again be portrayed as the film's villains, what do you think about that? Do you think it's right for Disney to represent you hunters as the villains of the film, this must tarnish your image. When I watch hunting videos, it doesn't seem like a bad thing to me, it seems like a good past time, unfortunately I'm not from the USA, I'm from Brazil and hunting is illegal here, there are deer here in my region, unfortunately it's very difficult to see them around.

It's time the state of Pennsylvania move into the 21st century and permit the use of modern in-line muzzleloader weapons. The forced required use of the antiquated weapon is only limiting the number of people who wish to hunt with a modern, more reliable version of a 19th century weapon. It's a moronic regulation that is as bad as the antler requirements for a legal buck, that occurred approximately 20 years ago. The state has surely lost millions of dollars a year, due too non-resident hunters refusing to hunt in Pennsylvania and possibly only see non-legal antlered deer due to the change in what is considered legal. When I hunted in the state, minimum legal antler size was three inches, today it requires at least half an eight-pointer on one side. Good luck with that.

nobody isforcing you to flintlock hunt if you like inline hunting you have 3 weeks to do so i will bet you use a rifle in the 2week deer season

@@robertmead1015 Due to physical limitations after a fall, I can no longer walk the miles I used to for Pennsylvania bear and two weeks of rifle. To top it off, my finances no longer permit me to travel out of state for three weeks of hunting.

You don't need 100 grains of black powder in your gun, unless your gun shoots better with 100 grains or should I say patterns better, then your gun needs 100 grains 10-4 buddy
