I've tried looking at purchasing a small display for hobby purposes, however the only options I've found online are in the range of $90-$150 for a section, smaller than the palm of my hand. How much did you pay for your setup, with its size?

I paid $800 for a 16x112 Luminator setup.

I got four from an old tram. I should probably make a controller for them sometime

Can you make a continuous flipdot display, with rotating cylinders or balls, with the one side black and one yellow? Have been an awesome analog display! Cool video by the way!

You could but this method using electromagnets works the best out of other methods I think.

I think I have this exact display, but I have no idea how to connect to it to control it :(

Could you 3D print these instead of purchasing them?

They are difficult to make, the dots have embedded magnets and there are also wire wound electromagnets for each corner. It’s possible but it’s a lot of work.

Hi, I have a flip dot board made by Hanover and need a bit of help, Mine worked fine for a while, but i cleaned the dots as they were dusty after years of being on a bus, and now alot of the dots stick on one side. I have removed them and cleaned them with isopropyl alcohol but alot of them still seem to stick on one side making the board pretty useless. Would you have any idea as to why the flip dots stick?

Voltage too low, sticky surface, high turning resistance, controller too fast, weak disk magnets. These are some of my guesses.
