Hunter Hudgins I bet, the truck I have got converted into a dump truck so it’s pretty light no problem when I skip gears, but don’t normally do it, i can also take off in 5th gear and it’s fine. This truck i only use it on weekends to sell material when people want small amounts, couple of yards.

Update... I obtained my CDL A license since I made the comment. I got hired on by CRST. I went through 6 weeks with my trainer. He never taught me trip planning nor backing into docks or at truck stops. He is a owner operator, and can make decisions like refusing loads. We sat 12 days, and 6 days straight. He turned Down 5 loads during the time of those 6 days we sat at a truck stop. I reported him, and they had me go to a terminal by taking greyhound. I spent over $500 just in taxi and greyhound services while in the company. Once I got to the terminal; the safety trainer had me test drive a truck. I come to a traffic light where I had to make a right hand turn. The light turned yellow after I rolled over the stop line. It turned red as I made into the turn. It was a really short right hand turn light. The guy failed and reported me for passing a red light. The company ultimately fired me. Everyone I discussed this to all agreed it was a bogus call. Now I am home after 5 months of insufficient income and $8000 more in debt. Do I regret what I did from the moment of enrolling into the program? No! I wouldn’t have known if I hadn’t tried what OTR is about. The companies and their broken systems are what make the job harder than anything else in the industry. One thing to take from this since you’ve read this far; is that you make sure not to end up in a owner operator’s truck!!!

Hunter Hudgins holy that is terrible man, what you should do is start of by driving a dump truck or rolloff were ever you live at, that is way better than working for those big company’s. And once you meet people in the business or what you want to do. Get yourself a truck.

I actually did the same thing Hunter, in CDL school I was driving an old International with a 9 speed.. I accidentally left the splitter up and went from 1st to 6th without stalling, it lugged a little bit but it still took the gear somehow. Still don't know how I did it.

Gearhead i have been waiting for a cold day to do one, but with this weather in houston i dont have to do nothing and truck will start right up. Im hoping december we get some cold days so i can do some throttle work to fire it up.

Mistrkevin your welcome man, and the best advice I can give you when going up a incline is when you need to downshift to get more power, shift quickly or the gear won’t go in, if you take a while to shift then go 2 gears down.

Shift more quickly on incline as your rpm will drop fast.

Brandon iG just means, you are either shifting to early or to late, all trucks are different, on my dads kenworth i have to wait a extra second to shift or i will grind, try to do it. But this time when you upshift try to go onto the next gear quickly and let it grind till it goes in, just see how much rpm had to drop for it to go in smothly

@@Grtruckingdemolitionllc the dairy plant where I used to work had this Peterbilt with an Eaton Fuller 10-speed, I learned how to drive stick-shift in it.

You just get used to it and know, also you can feel the truck when it wants lower or higher gear

The 9 speed and up eatons uses whats called a "dual/double pattern". The trans has a splitter box built directly on the back of the trans thats air powered. For the 10 speed, gears 1&6 share the same gate, along with 2&7 on a gate, 3&8 on a gate, 4&9 on a gate, and 5&10 on a gate. When driving and shifting through every gear, you will shift 1-5 like your normal H pattern transmission. Before you shift from 5 to 6, you switch it to high range (this is that switch you see this guy flip on the shifter knob). After that switch is flipped, youll move the shifter over to the 1st gear gate and you'll be in 6th gear, because now youre in high range. After that, you will shift through the gears like a normal manual, keeping the trans in high range. To downshift, just reverse it. Bring it down to 6th gear (the 1st gear gate in low range) and switch the splitter back to low before down shifting from 6 to 5 (going from the 1st gear gate to the 5th gear gate)

J A if you are Referring to skiping gears when upshifting you can, i most of the time take off in 4th and skip every other gear, when im empty i can also take off from 5th go to 7th/9th/10th gear. And if you ment to skip gears while going up a hill depends how steep, i would recommend to not skip gears while going up a hill thou.

@@Grtruckingdemolitionllc exactly what I was referring to, just wasnt sure if the rpms could be raised above 1500 and still go smoothly in the hole

J A J A for example when downshifting if i am in 8th gear i let the rpm get to 800 then i raise my rpm to 1500 goes smoothly in to 6th gear. To upshift or downshit on this truck just need to let 400rpm drop or rev it up, and to skip gears i just double the rpm, so 800 to skip a gear or rev it up 800rpm to drop 2 gears.

Welli DS cars and trucks have synchronizers, tractor trailers don’t. Americans don’t need to clutch twice per shift every few seconds to get to tenth gear and back down

Welli DS it’s a Fuller gearbox, it’s basically designed to be used without a clutch (exception made for when you start moving and when you come to a stop)

You know nothing about semi trucks... You are the synchronizer tractor trailers have straight cut gears for strength and no synchros.

@@carsnmods1687 You are correct, I know nothing about trucks, But I have two of them. Back in the 80s my father overseas had two Saab-Scanias with 600 HP engines, back then, the 10 Speed ZF transmission was fully synchronized.

@@WelliDS there is probably good reason why back then they had synchros and greater reason that the US doesn't have those trucks. I am speaking of the trucks here.
