This type just collects stuff. You have to manually remove what ever it collects.

@@FamilyDIY Yes it did this straight out of the box so might be a faulty one. I have to suspend it to get it to work as it should. I'll give it a few more days to see what I can come up with before sending it back.

I sometimes have the same problem. If I place to many rocks in the skimmer it sinks or when it get over filled when I forget to clean it out after a lot of leaves hit the pond.

Have you tried added weight to the basket? might prevent it up rising up.

UV won't do anything for string algae, only free floating algae that turns the water green. To fight string algae you need to get your nitrate levels down. The best way is to add more nitrate eating plants. I recommend iris, water lettuce & bullrush. The water lettuce has the added bonus of adding some shade to the pond which will deny algae the sunlight it needs for photosynthesis. Water Lillies aren't great for removing nitrates but, like the water lettuce, they will add considerable shade to the pond to starve the algae of sunlight.

Yes. I have water lilies in my pond now and are not affected at all.

I have found that most of the time you dont need the stones, but if you dont have the time to clean it out daily, it helps it from floating up.

Sounds like you need one of those permanent one you built into the side of the pond if you are getting that much debris

@@FamilyDIY I don't think that 1/2" in the basket should be too much. The reason I bought it is because I saw it had a large basket, almost as big as a swimming pool skimmer basket. It's just that the filter got too plugged up for water to pass thru effectively. I didn't let it run for a week to see if it would continue to suck in floating debris but I could tell from observing it that it was not working with anywhere near the force it had when it was clean. When I first plugged it in I had high hopes because it was functions so well. I'm not really surprised though. It seems like a large percentage of things don't work as well as I expect they should :) I may have to go with a large built in skimmer. I'm in the AZ desert and it has reached the 100+ degree days so it will be a project for next fall/winter.

What do you use in your pond?

@@FamilyDIY I am fortunate that I don't have a lot of large tress in or near my pond so when necessary to remove things from the surface I use a long handled (hand held) swimming pool skimmer. Only takes a couple of minutes a day at most and because the skimmer mesh is very fine I can easily remove anything that lands on the water.

When I first built my pond, my neighbor had pepper trees hanging over it. I absolutely need this skimmer. They finally cut them down so I hardly need it anymore.

Well, the real environment issue is having a pond wasting all the water, and electricity.

When you have neighbors with trees that drop a lot. It is well worth it rather than using a net every day.

As of today, August 19, 2018 I am still running the same skimmer that is shown in this video. Works great and keeps it clean. Not sure where you are getting your information.

I think you mean Jebao. And Jebao make some pretty decent stuff. Not everything from China is trash. They're actually really into ponds over there and know their stuff.
