The downstream end of the control works of the Chena River Lakes Flood Control Project. The Chena River runs through four concrete bays about 40 miles upriver of Fairbanks. During big rains, dam tenders lower gates like garage doors and skim off some of the Chena. The backed up portion of the river goes into a floodplain that can spill into the Tanana River if there's enough water.
