I lived not far from the little creek, Maggodee Creek, in Boones Mill, Va, and this unbelievable... The creek bottoms looked like a lake! My Grandfather's cabin was moved, but not taken by the waters. There was produce, like watermelons, and pumpkins, floating everywhere, coming from produce stands, and stores in town, I think. I grabbed a couple of undamaged watermelons. Oddly enough, I don't remember the rain. Good to have footage like this.

Same flood hit West Virginia. I was in the WV Army National Guard, with the 111th Engineer Group, we were on State Duty for over a month maybe longer. In my 20 yrs with the WVARNG, that was the worst flood.

I remember this flood in WV. I was living in Maryland and we took over 100 cars there for the people. I was shocked at the damage.

I was born on the 6th at like 12:01 am. Ambulance couldn't get out of Belington to a hospital so the EMT and firemen delivered me in the clinic.

@Sheldon Goff your welcome. It was an honor to serve in the West Virginia Army National Guard and to help people.... especially "Flood Duty." The 1985 flood was bad. I think there were close to 50 who were killed. What part of West Virginia did you live in back in 1985?

@USMC Veteran lived in Rowlesburg. Still do, but on higher ground. NG was there for weeks, helped clean up homes and properties, provided fresh water, food, rebuilt roads and the engineering division installed the temp bridge across the Cheat. Recovery would have been so much harder without you folks. And taken so much longer.

It wasn't just Roanoke. WV. got ripped apart. There are some places that don't even exist because that flood. Even today there are some places where you see the mud lines on the sides of buildings. That flood stacked mobile homes up in Moorefield like cord wood.
