Just a suggestion. If you build a full wall dividing kitchen from stairs, you are compartmentalizing the rooms. Perhaps a pony wall would leave it with an open concept, creating a much larger appearance.🤷‍♀️

A few months ago, I suggested to have no wall at all. It would be obvious where the kitchen area is without chopping it up with a wall. Like an efficiency apartment.

@@Seans_World Leave it open plan without the full or half wall. It would make it bigger, light & airy. Instead of a half wall put a decorative French balustrade there between the kitchen & the stairs. Thanks for sharing, really enjoying watching your informative commentary & renovating this cottage into a beautiful cottage.

Don’t put walls in the kitchen! Keep everything open with lower cabinets and upper cabinets on the back wall. We have no walls and the kitchen is a delight to work in! Open and airy and part of the rest of the house.

Oh, I am so happy and excited that you are using more of the stones that you are uncovering from the original floor. I like the idea of some oak with the stones and Terra cotta tiles. I especially like that you are paying homage to the gents who created the cottage. If they can look down, they will be pleased as punch with your creative ideas. You need a free hand to change the restoration as you see fit. There is nothing boring on your videos. The Bog Walkway will be a great improvement with bog plants. When the cottage is finished, don't be surprised ,you have a huge list of people wanting to stay in the cottage like a hotel. You never know. I super enjoyed today's video because it lasted longer today. Just loved it !!! Hello from Yakima, Washington, USA

I've enjoyed seeing the progress you have made recently. I have to agree with statements several others have made, keep the downstairs as open a possible without walls. The space is full of special timbers, the stone fireplace and the rendered walls to be. It would be a shame to chop up this area with walls. Let these wonderful features be observed at their best. I also suggest making the proposed stone entrance pad at least a meter wide and the length of the door. Make it a statement area.

Historically, might water run-off, coming from the back, be a regular problem just in that area...such that is will be coming into the house? Thus, maybe a French drain installed? Have you seen any sort of outlet on the front of the house for water run-off? Love the idea of paying homage to the old by using the stone for an entrance way.

Hi Sean! In watching you dig out the larger stones I came up with an idea. It'll require a bit more work, but I think if you might want to relay these stones in a half circle. Then lay the Terra cotta tiles in radiating semi-circles until you reach the walls for the living room and the kitchen, making the entryway a unique feature in itself.

Just a thought: I agree with some of the other comments about not putting a full wall in between the kitchen and stairs. What about a half wall with some type of lattice work between the kitchen and stairs that would provide privacy going up and down? Leave the rest of the kitchen open plan to the rest of the downstairs. And behind the main door, inset some of those nice flat stones in the floor, then put some ‘period’ type coat hooks on the wall for when it is raining…

Dear Sean, do you have to put walls in the kitchen? Can’t it all be open to the whole space and maybe find a beautiful wooden piece of furniture to use as a small center island placed up to the change in floor height and looking out to the fireplace and living room. I think it would be much nicer all opened up. I like the idea of stone right at the entrance and then the terracotta. But I wouldn’t then put a different floor in the kitchen and living room unless they are both wood. Oh my goodness the cat carrier is hilarious but functional I’m sure. ❤

You need to get harnesses and leashes for your cats. You can take them for a walk. My daughter does this. They love it.

I think you once mentioned, but I've forgotten. Why are you not expanding the top floor into at least part of the barn to give you more room for step clearance? Are there planning issues? Is it not structurally sound? I'd envision maybe a small study/bedroom/storage area into part of the top floor of the barn. Every few meters helps. 😉

If you bought a cat harness you could take them for a walk round the green.

Sean have you thought of a rammed earth floor down stairs. Polished up it not only looks good but its nice and smooth to walk on.
