Pocket doors are a pain, then if a handle is added ...they stick out. You can go handle-free,but needs touch to open. Despite any rollers in the kit, they will roll against a painted surface and easily cause damage. Good luck, you will need it!

I’m trying to do the same thing in a much smaller space: toaster, coffee maker etc. must have their own places to live, countertops should be clear - and I would always design a kitchen that way, no matter the size.

Great job on the pocket door installation. I wish it only took me two tries to install the first appliance "garage" in a floor to ceiling unit. Your LED lighting is a sweet touch in deep cabinets. Your designer should submit your kitchen to be featured in an upcoming magazine issue.

I watch wet l with rapt attention. You’re a master at what you do. I did wonder why you’d use mdf for anything when you have more durable options. Another question is how you make dominoes removable. I find them to be so tight that they’re very difficult to disassemble. What’s your trick? Learning so much through your thought process. Very interesting.

I built a TV cabinet back in the early 80’s with a pair of pocket doors. If you will remember in the early 80’s they didn’t have that hardware. Oh never mind trying to remember you probably were not born yet. I basically built that cabinet 3 times to finally get it right. I told the customer to enjoy her one of a kind custom cabinet because I would never build another one. A couple of years later they came out with the hardware.

The appliance cabinet looks really good and complex at the same time. Did you ever figure out how much it weighs? With all that MDF and plywood with the door hardware that has to be a very substantial cabinet all by itself. The pocket door hardware looked really complicated, but you made it look simple enough when it was completed. The finished kitchen will become a work-of-art, it already is, but the end result will be nothing short of an amazing accomplishment.

To put in perspective, I did a custom design for a pantry cabinet that had pocket doors, vertical partitions, adjustable shelves and veggie baskets in the bottom that pull out like drawers. It was $14K cost from the manufacturer. That included labor, materials and tooling about 8 years ago. I wonder how much in today’s dollars both of these pantry cabinets would be.

If you have a projecting handle it will not slide all the way in. Considering the size of rhat room and the whole deal of the ever likely door close- would not a tambor roll back or roll down have been easier.. Since the closeed position is so infrequent; if you use the room daily.

In some jurisdictions (not sure about yours) for code and safety, any powered appliances inside a cabinet that closes, must have their outlets disconnected automatically when the door is not fully open. This prevents you running a toaster in an enclosed space for example. To do this, you usually want a small access panel with the power relays and circuitry (usually on a DIN rail) somewhere nearby in the kitchen. I don't remember seeing this anywhere and it doesn't look like your electrician wired it up this way. Might want to check and do it now before all the walls are in place. HTH

Hello Matt from the land of Oz and to let you know I have enjoyed the build series with yourself and Donovan. Now a question if I may? I know that painters don't tend to use (waste) paint on areas that aren't going to be seen. But do you think it would look so much better if you applied a coat of paint over the walls which will be covered. I am sorry but I have OCD and it annoys me. When I repainted the interior of my home in Australia. I found that the areas behind built in robes and cupboards that weren't seen hadn't been painted. They have now and still can't be seen but I am content.
