Florence Must-Do's: Cathedral Dome Climb & Statue of David | ITALY Travel

Күн бұрынWe returned to Florence after our short getaway to Cinque Terre. This time we checked off our remaining must-do activities in Florence which was to see Micheanglo's Statue of David located in the Accademia Gallery and do the Florence Cathedral Dome Climb (as well as go up Giotto's Bell Tower).
Lunch was at Mercato Centrale which is a food hall and central market.

We got our entry tickets to both Statue of David and the Santa Maria Del Fiore (Florence Cathedral) Dome Climb from Get Your Guide. Both activities do not include a guide and the Cathedral one actually included entry to the bell tower too.

Wow, that Cathedral was so beautiful, and so big! I can well understand why it took two centuries to build. Another beautiful city, thanks for bringing it to us 🙂

No worries thanks for watching kiwi Col. It's crazy to think that a building has been under construction for hundreds of years 😅 People wouldn't have been able to see it complete in their lifetimes work. But we get to enjoy these work of arts in their final form. So lucky.

For a long time i have always felt that artists of this time cannot compare with those in the past - apart from seeing pictures i have never seen the Statue of David live up front.....I feel that would be an emotional moment for me. Thanks Pete & Yen, i thoroughly enjoyed this video. - at the risk of sounding weird - love you guys.

My hat is off to those artists. They're incredibly talented. They're able to create a master piece with limited resource they had back then. Omg, the line for cheap tickets is just crazy 😱

David looks breathtaking and Italy 🇮🇹 appeared to always be buzzy and full of life and energy. 400 steps must be a doddle for you guys with all your travel. Stunning views from the top too 😊

Hahahaha I like the way you put it, a doodle 😁👍 it was surprisingly easy 400 sounded much tougher than it actually was. The ceiling of the Dome and the view was wonderful. Was particularly impressed with the statue of David though and Yen taught me a lot about the history behind it 😊

Saw Michelangelo's David and climbed the Florence Cathedral dome in April 2019. I also did the "good luck ritual" at Porcellino (the pig statute). I "did" Florence in a day trip from Rome leaving and returning on a fast train which is entirely possible if you leave Rome early enough. What is handy is that the Florence Cathedral is within walking distance of Florence's central railway station.

@@PeterandYen Or pressed for money... Train tickets in Italy are cheap and would you find a cheap AirBnB within walking distance of the Florence cathedral? Saves carting around your heavy suitcases/backpacks when your all set up in Rome anyway.

The best food I had in Mercado Centrale was downstairs the sandwich shop with options of roasted pork, tripe etc. cheap and delicious! Not impressed with any food on the 2nd floor of the market. Climbing the Duomo steps are tiring but so so worth it! Loving every minute of your vlog brings back so much memories for me.

Yay for offal!!! Just had some yesterday 😁. Double yay for offal with meatball that tastes like falafel 🥙😁😁 Triple yay for offal with meatball that tastes like falafel and doing 400 steps afterwards days after a 3 hr hike 😁😁😁…. Super cool you guys are stacking up those memories of places you’ve been wanting to see… safe travel guys!!

Hahahaha offal is the best 👌 what cut did you have yesterday? The memories this trip have been truly magnificent. Just had an absolute adventure in Morocco 🇲🇦 now we're in Greece 🇬🇷 didn't know and the Miyazaki movie 😮 gonna have to watch that for sure!

Memories of visiting in the 80s and still remember the statue of David as being really impressive in person - more so than I had thought it would be - unlike the Mona Lisa (disappointed). Some things that are hyped truly are worth it and others not so much (personal opinion of course).

Yes! Totally agree with you. When we saw it both the size and the detail was totally unexpected. We saw a lot of statues during our time and this was one of the stand outs. We've still yet to see the Mona Lisa though 😮

Right on to the next video I haven't watched! Haha get in line and get fit too before doing all those steps! Always great how you include so much information about the statue and yeah different measurements must be the marble base compared to where he's actually standing! Glad you always find good food. Oh How did you Yen guess that Peter was hungry? He's always hungry! haha! Yeah I forgot that building took 200 years to complete, definitely not todays standards! Yes the 400 steps well I guess you're both super fit now! Glad you made it to the top of the dome! Wow so the dome is two layers, wonder why they decided to do that? Yeah great you went to the belltower and yes have seen that in other videos! Great job on this and cant wait to watch the next one! Might do that right now!

Can understand why the skip the line tickets are so popular! 4 hours seems excessive to see the statue 😅 The inside of the cathedral looks absolutely stunning. Well done for doing the 400+ steps 😊
