So many awesome things to see and do there. I'd love to see the manatees and do that experience. The wildlife park would also be on my list and I'd also like to see the Old-Florida Island. Seems more peaceful there. So much to explore in Florida - my list keeps growing.

Another great video of some of the most interesting places on the Nature Coast! I had a lovely time visiting Cedar Key several years ago. There was a local pilot, Marvin Franks, who offered plane rides over the area. Cedar Key Island Air Tours is his business--it was an amazing tour over such a pretty old fishing town. Thanks for the memories! 🙂

Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Those wings were from Steamer's on Cedar Key. We were really impressed with how delicious they were, especially for an oyster place! Beautiful bird at 5:27... but had no idea that is what it was called. Thanks for info!

That mermaid show would definitely be something interesting to see....don't think there is anything like that over here. The beautiful clear waters to swim in and a shame the water park was closed. However I'm very surprised they give you a bucket to collect shells....I wonder how long they do that for before there is a shortage and have to stop it. This crystal river area is one I've wanted to visit for ages and I can't wait to get there one day...I love the Dugongs or Manatees and see so many clips of paddleboarding past them, and snorkelling is definitely on the list. Great round up video guys :)
@Explorcation
@Explorcation Жыл бұрын
I honestly had no idea that the Indian Ocean had its own manatees (dugongs)... which prompted me to do a little research. It sounds like they are a bit smaller and have a different type of tail, but are otherwise pretty much the same, correct? Either way, would love to get to experience them in person some day! We had never really thought about taking shells from the beach as being potentially harmful to the ecosystem until recently. I doubt the thought ever crosses most shell collectors' minds. It seems like there is still quite a bit of debate on how harmful it actually is, but we do prefer to err on the side of caution and leave things the way nature intended whenever possible.
@AquariusTraveller
@AquariusTraveller Жыл бұрын
@@Explorcation There are Dugongs over here, but few and far between. No actually tour in the wild to see them, but you can randomly swim past one. Therefore, not something I have ever seen in the wild and only in a wildlife park. Going to have to trust you on the size and tail being different.......I have no clue and good for you on doing some research :) There is a big thing over here right now about balancing rocks on a beach like a pyramid....I'm sure you have seen it before. A small thing that looks pretty, but potentially dangerous for the ecosystem by changing the environment and upsetting animals homes, Blocks waves etc. There is now a 15k fine for anyone caught doing it in a particular state and soon I think they will make it Australia wide. You would be surprised how much it's frowned upon all over the world ( like riding elephants or getting pictures taken with tigers).... everyone has an opinion and your never going to please everyone. :) But collecting shells might be the thing to do over there and that's fine.... We are taught over here to leave only footprints and take only photos in any natural environment.....but plenty still do!
@Explorcation
@Explorcation Жыл бұрын
Jamie just informed me that she was aware of the Dugongs from a prior conversation with you... not sure why she never told me about them! 😂 How awesome that would be to be lucky enough to swim by one in the wild. Yes, people definitely do the rock pyramid thing here too.... definitely never heard of anyone getting fined for it though. It sounds like Australia has much stricter beach laws than here in the states. They will probably make there way here eventually!
@AquariusTraveller
@AquariusTraveller Жыл бұрын
@@Explorcation I think the prior Dugong conversation was from the first video you ever posted on Crystal river...That was a while ago...LOL Yeah, Australia is pretty strict with rules, especially in a natural environment. Big on safety too and can't even use a gopro on a waterslide..... Thats why I like travel elsewhere sometimesHAHA
@Explorcation
@Explorcation Жыл бұрын
@@AquariusTraveller that was a long time ago! I (Jamie) definitely remember the convo though :) Wow those rules are pretty strict, but I am sure the rules really help preserve the nature areas.

OUR Jayme actually had a chance to visit Homosassa Springs with her mom several years ago! It is still one of her favorite memories with her mama♥️ The Branson Fam will need to take our kiddos there on our next trip to Florida! When is the best time to see all of the manitees there?
@Explorcation
@Explorcation Жыл бұрын
Homosassa really is one of the highlights of the nature coast. The best time to see the manatees is basically any time that the spring water is warmer than the gulf water. So any time the gulf water dips below 72 degrees (primarily in the winter months), the manatees will start making their way to the warmer spring waters.

I love the springs but why are you not afraid of gators?
@Explorcation
@Explorcation Жыл бұрын
From what we've heard, alligators generally don't prefer the springs waters because of the cool temperatures, but they are still spotted in and around the springs on occasion. That said, thousands of people swim in spring waters every year, and we never hear about them getting attacked, so for us, the experience is worth the risk.
