Long time Punta Gorda, Florida resident here who just discovered this channel while on an extended stay in South Carolina. First, to get it out of the way, always where your PFD's when kayaking, always - things happen. I've been criss crossing FL the last couple of years in my Subaru Outback with my kayak on top and a converted cargo trailer as a camper behind and Ft. DeSoto is a favorite of mine. Love the campsites on the water there.

Sweet video, lazy summer haze totally worth it. So many wildfires in CO, one of my favorite Nat. Forests closed due to fire danger and my go-to overlanding spot just survived a forest fire, so we haven't been as active as we would like.

Great to see these small trailers as base camps for so many different activities. Having just located your channel, wonder if you have shared any video inside your camper as well as comments on your impression of the Runaway so far. Personally, the 4' height is too limiting for my girlfriend and I, but with the emergence of the new stand up model, I do hope to check them out again in the future. Met Steven and his wife this past March at the Runaway HQ and are totally impressed with their production and affordable campers! Definitely​ want to check out Ft. Desoto in the future! You can get a a noodle at Walmart to float. Dont forget the sting ray shuffle. I bite can ruin the day at the beach.

I'm thinking about going to Fort desoto the third weekend of September. Is that a good time of the year to go? I was down there once a about 3 years ago in May and the Sand gnats we're so bad in the campground.

We LOVE Ft DeSoto but oh, those raccoons are brazen!

Are you allowed to get in the water near the campsite?

Sprinkle cayenne pepper around your campsite. Its keeps the raccoons away.

I'm sorry to be writing to an older post but I found it the most relevant to my question. I am planning to go camping with my 6yo. son and 11yo daughter in January. It will be their first time camping. What beach camping do you recommend in January in Florida. The more south the better. I will be camping in a 1998 K1500 (4x4) with a topper in the back.

What's up Kevin .. seems like y'all got another good spot at Fort Desoto? I looked up the campground last night their website says up to a seven month reservation... it's so hard to plan that far in advance... I booked a site at chassahowitzka, in one of your videos you were talking about how dumpy the sites were, so I specifically asked for the nicest site and supposedly the lady hook me up lol, so I'll be headed out there the 30th of this month to kayak to the springs and ride the trails... thanks again for the videos Man I really enjoying, btw which rig did you sell your TJ or JK?
