Here are my thoughts on moving to this state capital. Its a great METRO AREA for affordability and an area that offers opportunity to anyone regardless of their background. However, in inner city neighborhoods are a solid PASS, and many adjacent areas that appear to look nice can also be filled with crime and undesirable issues.

Wow. This guy tip-toed around the REAL ISSUE here. I too moved here from Florida (Key Largo) about 15 years ago. And yes, I'm near Perry Hill. It was total culture shock ! First of all, when I watch the news, I don't care to hear about who's retiring from the School Board, or a ground breaking of a Daycare center, who's Birthday it is, etc. YOU WILL NOT get REAL NEWS from the local programming. Coming from FL you need a whole new mindset when getting a job here. Here, you are not allowed to have fun or enjoy your job. Period. They actually get mad if you laugh, smile or don't seem as annoyed as they are for being at work. And whatever you do, don't tell jokes. They either don't get them or they don't understand why you even told a joke. Waaaay too serious here. But the biggest issue here is that the locals ( the hood rats ), don't give a rats ass about you or themselves. Self esteem here is missing to say it politely. And I've never seen so many Handi-Capped placards hanging from mirrors as I do here. What does that tell you??? Yep, the home base of Entitlements is Montgomery, AL. Now lets talk about culture and things to do....Um.....well.....I guess you could drive around and look at people sitting on couches on their front porches. I'm sorry, but I couldn't recommend this place for ANY reason. And yes, I refuse to die here. There will be one more house up for sale before long and I'm quite sure another hood rat will purchase my house and continue the cycle of dragging another neighborhood down...They're really good at it !

OMG SO TRUE! I hated IT! GLAD TO BE BACK IN FLORIDA!!! i MUST SHARE THIS SCTION OF YOUR COMMENT ON ANOTHER VIDEO! ___ Here, you are not allowed to have fun or enjoy your job. Period. Naples in Florida is a really expensive area without a ton of good jobs. Lots of service jobs but outside of that, not too much. Collier County is mostly wealthy retirees who live in manicured golf course communities, so I get why you left. There’s other more affordable areas in Florida but that’s in the north part of Florida and that’s similar to Alabama anyways. I really respect your “hustle“ you’re a true entrepreneur and that’s why I love tuning in to your videos. You’re real and you’re busting your butt to have a better life. Keep it up Jose-because it will pay off in the long run.

You have no idea! I am in so much pain right now, been outside cutting trees for days now to prepare this property for a decent condition. spent 6 hours to change a trailer hub that was a nightmare, and someone the last lug nut did not fit even after all types of KZfaq videos.. yeah we really are going hard now. At least the weather lends itself for that well. North Florida IS PRACTICALLY ALABAMA,, that's what so many of my subscribers just DONT GET. GALD you know.

I went to that same coffee & bookstore. They have a spiral staircase, Harry Potter type area, great coffee and fritters. I live in Blount county about 40miles north Alabama and we have a beautiful rivers, streams and lakes. You need to see our covered bridges...well our one covered bridge left the other one was just built as a new bridge. Nectar covered bridge is great if you look down the river you can see a flat stone wall that's about 60-70ft tall.

I love this video. I like how he preaches a "Keep trying, be respectful and the locals will eventually respond" usually people take a belligerent approach if their friendliness isn't returned, including the ppl in Montgomery... but as an outsider, its always in your best interest to win the locals over even if they're not warm to you right away. I am from Tuskegee and I just moved back to Montgomery from Atlanta for a job offer. Not my cup of tea really and I dont plan to be here but for a year or two but I must say it has come a very long way. Downtown used to be a joke but it has totally revitalized and actually looks REALLY GOOD NOW. Lots of new businesses in Mgm and the East side has grown exponentially. Really nice out there now. When I was a little boy there was nothing past Taylor Road! Now there are MANY nice businesses and Eastchase. Its totally different now. Even down by the Riverfront has been revitalized and looks really good. I am pretty impressed tho. Its very affordable tho. I am a therapist and make decent money and am comfortable.

Thank you for sharing your video. It is Amazing your social interaction recommendations with the Alabamians; it is Just so Accurate!. Great Advice!... I just want to add that the Demand for politeness, respect, and friendly behavior is Strictly Observed and expected from us the new residents of this little town. However it is NOT something you receive UNTIL THEY ARE READY!? Like just repeat that to yourself a couple of times and really listen how that sounds....Is that Okay? Do you find that Acceptable? Do you Not find that Disrespectful and Discriminatory from them? Because that is How I have felt all this time. Trust me I have showed so much Respect and been so Extremely patient with this whole "This is Alabama" statement. What does that even mean? What right do they have any different from those of others that come from other cities? Why Must we Give them time to Adjust to us and allow them to show back the same respect ans courtesy as they are given? It is Disrespectful from them as well when they do not respond or provide the same respectful behavior to Us! I decided to limit my interactions to as needed and chose to also turn "ON" my survival botton. Focusing on what is important My children and myself so they can be ready whenever they get ready. Non of them matter to me and Specially I Do Need their Approval!!!! Anyways thank you so much for sharing this amazing video. 🤗

I lived in Montgomery for ten years. Coming from New Orleans, I found it to be a slow, quiet city that thinks it's a small town. I lived in the northeast part of the city and worked privately for a wealthy family. Where one went to church was a big thing and it seemed like everybody knew everybody. If you've seen the movie, The Help, you've seen the wealthier, old money neighborhoods of Montgomery. Racism is like an ingrained part of the city's blood...and so is class. Social circles, as I witnessed, were cultish and elitist. On a different note, this video was a pretty good representation of downtown; however, there are some beautiful, safe, affordable neighborhoods that were left out. If you're thinking of moving here, look into Forest Hills...lots of small families and retirees...quiet, children outside playing, clean and kept up homes... And if you have a little money (and can pay over $150,000 for a home), look at the east side. ...I do miss Alabama. It is such a beautiful, low populated state.

I've lived in Montgomery Alabama my whole life 63 years. I've lived in four different areas in the city and when I was 30 years old I bought a house as a single woman and a very well-respected neighborhood. 3 years later I got married 578 years later we bought the house across the street that is much larger house. My husband passed away six years ago but I have remained in the home and I do what I need to do to help bring this neighborhood back up. The only thing I tell people that moved here beware of rental homes that are managed by companies. The block I live on all the homes are owned and rented by the homeowners and it is a good block. The block next down from mine is all managers and it is a drug-infested block and the home owners and managers don't do anything to improve it. I just talked to the landlord of one of those homes yesterday informing him of all the things that go on in his block from his home and he told me they were aware of what goes on but they are not moving me these people and he wants his money. Advise people when you move into a neighborhood I'll tell everybody ride around a lot of times and different days and different hours to see what really goes on. Do not get into a neighborhood and investigated that rental homes are ran by managers. That is one of the things that destroys a neighborhood. I have seen that happened in my neighborhood the last 20 years but overall I love my City and I plan on staying in it until God takes me to my forever home.

I moved from Montgomery, Alabama to Charleston, SC 2 years ago after living there for 15 years. It was slow! Nothing much to do but it was a cool town and I met some decent people. I wouldn’t say the well traveled type and I agree there are a lot of people there complaining about jobs and pay but haven’t really put themselves in a position to potentially do better. The best job I found there was at Baptist medical center and even having an education, the pay wasn’t that great! I would definitely say it’s cool if you have done all u want to do and retirement is in your near future but not so much for young people. It was a VERY affordable place to live considering what I pay now for a house in Charleston. I spend about 1,200 more than in Montgomery but I guess it balance out because I make a lot more. School system sucks, definitely send your kids to private school if moving here and providing you can afford it. Other than that it was ok. It wasn’t the worst place I’ve ever lived. Also the crime rate is pretty high for a small city.

Just wondering if you know where that smell is coming from in Pratt / MillBrook area? We lived there for a year and that smell would just knock your socks off, couldn't go outside for it gave off such a smell and headaches...I think it's the papermill but not sure...I love Prattville / Millbrook but from what I am seeing/hearing/understanding unless you are stationed there in the military the job sources are pretty scarce which is why the housing is so cheap. Up here in the Ham it's not really any better...Alabama just really does not house very good jobs although Bessemer now has Amazon not sure for how long that will last tho. but Bessemer is not a place I recommend to anyone..very bad crime over there - Alabama has tons of history and I am finding that most people maybe not all but most who have lived here their entire lives still hold the same mentality as it was back in the day......Racism runs deep in this state all in which I find myself not accustom to.... Politics is another red run deep state not saying red run is bad or anything but these people really depend on that frame of mindset. As for things to do from Montgomery to Birmingham you really wont find much to do unless your into history then there is plenty of museums but for physical activity that is not happening here...best go live in Gulf Shores (which is beautiful by the way, but the jobs down there are non existent) I guess it all comes down to what you want out of life and what you want to do with your life as you stated either save money or spend money - for me I guess we save and spend but we are on the extremely higher side of pay so for us its not really an issue but what is an issue is if you want something fun to do you have to travel out of state to do that...luckily I have family just two hours south on the ocean so again not really an issue for me....Someone in your comments mentioned culture shock and let me tell you, if you come from most any other state you will find yourself in pure culture shock here. As you also mentioned for people to do their homework before moving to a place like Alabama I would also second that motion....Another small tip, live as close to 65 as possible because anything going away from 65 you will find yourself driving more towards it to get to any stores because Alabama dose not really have small towns your either in the inner city/sub area or your in the sticks with nothing.....One way in and One Way out....Hwy 65 is your ticket.....Thanks for your video! Until next time see keep reaching for the stars....

@@bamaboy7489 I don't think it had anything to do with the schools or crime at the time. They weren't failing then. But I would say the schools are in a much better position than what they were between the early 2000s and 2017. Before now the school grade was a 69. It's risen to a 74, and has probably risen again. But it's still lower than the state average of an 84. The schools seemed to reach their undesirable point in the early 2000s, which is when the population of Montgomery flattened, eventually dropping after 2010. Years of low property taxes have caused the problems in our schools. After the the early 2000s , parental involvement was no longer there. A property tax increase was put up for a vote in 1994, but in the end result it failed with 56% against. From 2006 back the schools received 8 mills in property taxes. After 2006 it was required to be raised to 10 mills and so far that's what we've been stuck with. Idk how the school system could have provided the necessary programs for students with that amount. The school system reached its bottom im 2017 when it almost went into bankruptcy. The people who voted against that tax increase last year, which of course eventually passed, just don't know how bad of a condition the school system is in especially financially. But finances have improved significantly since 2017. Which is good news. The school system had more students in 1960 than today. The city's population was a little over 134,000 in 1960, and the school system had 40,000 students. Today that number is 25,000,which is less than the 30,000 in 2015.

Alabama’s cost of living is great. But Montgomery is a horrible place to live. It’s a shit hole. High crime and nothing to do. No good jobs. Look at the Huntsville area. Real city, low crime, low cost of living. Huntsville is the best of everything. I used to live in Forrest Hills off Perry Hill Road. We moved out 15 years ago when the crime started and we would hear the gun shots from Ann Street. Definitely move to Prattville, Millbrook, Wetumpka or Pike Road if you have to live here.
