A good balance between quilting and stitching is what makes you happy at that moment. I have an accumulation of 38 years of quilting, and now that I'm stitching for 2 1/2 years, the only quilting I do is making my own quilted project bags. Now that's a balance I'm happy with!😁

Love all your show and tell, the re-framed piece(s) is/are lovely. I always enjoy watching what you’ve been stitching on and what you’ve chosen for the upcoming days/weeks/months. Laughing at your story about learning to free-motion quilt and how your feathers look like fingers. Well, Karen, at least they don’t look like the ominous male part like mine did😂 - and there it was, dangling, for all to see. Happily it was the same color thread as the border and was nicely camouflaged. Oh brother!! It does take practice and more practice, and then, some more😅 - happy that you’ve landed in just one place now. I guess it’s true what they say when they say - “there’s no place like (the original) home.” 😉 - Barb in Tucson

Congratulations on selling your Florida home. On to the next chapter. Regarding a quilting and cross stitch balance…this is what works for me…I quilt in the morning and cross stitch in the evening. I almost never do it the other way around. As for the afternoon….that can go either way. I’m a morning person and get most tasks, jobs or out of the house things done in the morning and I’m good with whatever time is left for quilting. I do have many days with no quilting but almost never miss a day of cross stitch. Partly that’s because I cross stitch during ‘down time’ but need more energy and alertness to work on a quilt. Pam

Thank you so much for your comment on my video. I am relieved to have the FL home sold. I didn't realize when we bought how much I would be constrained by not having access to my sewing room for a long period of time. Mr. Enabler is OK with the change, so we will move forward. See you again soon. Best, K

Re: the non-slip tape on the back of your rulers, I found some clear anti-slip stair tread tape on Amazon. It is 1” wide. I cut it into 1/4 inch wide strips and lay it on the edges of my rulers. It works great. One roll is MORE than enough, so I often share with friends.

Strawberry Fields and Cinnamon Stars look amazing! I also love the quilt! I do both cross stitch and quilting. How I spend my time varies between my mood! LOL. In general I sit at my machine more in the morning and early afternoon. Then I turn to my cross stitch later in the day. Good luck with the closet clean out. I need to do that too. Thanks for sharing!

Enjoyed watching and seeing your beautiful stitching and quilting. I cross-stitch mostly at night and quilt/sew during the day. I also "quilt" with a friend(s) on Fridays via FaceTime and that helps with accountability to work on quilting UFOs/WIPs. Looking forward to attending Central KY Stitchers with you tomorrow. See you soon!

Your stitching and quilting are beautiful as usual. So happy you sold your Florida home, that must be a load off your mind. I am a retired nurse and for most of my almost 40 year career, I worked a lot of night shifts, a lot! So when I retired in 2015, my life still sort of revolves staying up late and not getting up until late mornings. I have been quilting and cross stitching since the late 1980’s but most of my crafting was quilting until I picked up xstitch again in 2019. So now, most days, I am downstairs in my sewing room working on quilts from around noon until dinner time, then from after dinner until I go to bed I xstitch. That has worked well for me so far! I am trying to clean out my sewing room, but I keep adding to my cross stitch room, so I’m not sure I’m getting very far. I hope you enjoy being back in KY full time! Heading to the Silver Needle Retreat in a few days, so obviously xstitch retreats take away from my quilting! Unless I go to a quilting retreat! P.S. I am still a totally slow, monogamous stitcher. More than WIPS stress me out! 😊😊

Thank you so much for sharing your experience of balancing our two great hobbies. I think you have worked out a great balance. Maybe split your days so that you stitch in the morning and quilt in the afternoon. I will usually take 2-3 days of a week to work on a quilting project. Love the framed pieces. Jaybird is a favorite pattern designer. I love her geometric shapes. She bought Lazy Girl Designs sometime after Joan Hawley passed away. Such a loss to the community but I’m glad the company will go on. Happy stitching!

Congratulations on selling your place in Florida! It must be a relief to have that wrapped up. I really admire people who multi craft. I decided a long time ago that cross stitching was going to be my craft of choice. I dabbled in other crafts, but I seemed to be most drawn to, and have a greater success with, cross stitch. So I cleared out all the other craft materials to make way for my cross stitch supplies. The problem for you, as I see it, is that you are an equally incredible stitcher as you are a quilter! I don't know how you could choose only one if you had to. Good luck finding a happy balance between the two😊. I'm sure you'll find a way!

Congratulations on selling your Florida house. What a relief that must be! Look at my name. I don't have any set routine for dividing my time between cross stitch and quilting, but usually I cross stitch in the morning and then quilt in the afternoon - or maybe not. If you consider the quilting you did on that quilt to be kindergarten level, I can't wait to see what you do now!

I struggle with doing all of the same hobbies….it’s really easy for me to just cross stitch after returning to it during the pandemic. Since retiring 3 years ago, I try to touch my quilting at least one hour every day prior to any cross stitching. I recently sorted all of my quilting stash and found the amount mentally overwhelming so after donating/reselling bags and bags of stash, I made a commitment to working it down further. I realized two things…. 1. I have to touch my quilting at least a minimum of one hour a day and 2. If I buy any new fabric, it has to be stitched in a project in the next two months and cannot be put in my stash…. 🥴 I’ve mostly stuck to it and usually quilt more than one hour once I get started. Thanks for another fun and thoughtful video Karen! Lori

Wow! That is such a great comment. You have really struggled with the same issue I have. I haven't gotten rid of any of my quilting stash. I still intend to move forward with quilting so I would be upset if I had gotten rid of something that "I could have used." It really is a sickness. I appreciate your input. I will keep you updated on what I come up with. Happy stitching. Best, Karen

@@recoveringmonogamousstitch1947 It truly is a sickness! 😂 It was hard reducing the stash but I kept imagining the burden I might dump on my husband if something happened to me. That made it much easier to keep only what I love.💕 Good luck with your plan Karen. Lori

When I came back to cross stitching I would work on quilts during the day and stitch in the evenings. Slowly the stitching took over and the only machine I have touched in months is my serger to finish the edges of all the stitching fabric that has entered the house! 😂 I‘lol be interested to see how you balance both crafts.

Oh so glad you have it sold! Congratulations 🎉 all look great but yes cinnamon stars frame does compliment it well. Wonder how many people sang long and winding road every time you said it besides me along with strawberry fields forever. Lol ❤ hmm I am no good at suggesting a plan as I only do what I want. 😅after writing that I realized that I have been monogamous since Feb on the full coverage, unless car stitching. But when I don’t have something I just need to get done, I can say oh will do… and then nope don’t feel like it. Good luck figuring both!

I tend to do quilting (sewing) projects in the morning. I find that if I sit down to crossstitch (or to do any slow stitching), I get caught up in it and before I know it, the entire day is gone. If I’m really into the quilting project I’m working on, I will sometimes go back to that after lunch and pick up my handwork later in the evening.

When you figure out the balance, do tell… I used to cross stitch monogamously; and quilted a A LOT! About 3 years ago, rediscovered cross stitch with the linen and over-dyes, and floss tube. Now I’m cross stitching along with wool appliqué and very little quilting. When I’m not watching grandchildren, I tend to piece in the morning and cross stitch in the evening.
