Hard to believe I posted this video 11 years ago. Good news is that I just replaced the same seal & impeller kit - so that data suggests the kit lasts approx 11 years - I’ll take that!

@bamm- I'm pulling from a natural source with a foot valve so I'm able to just disconnect the inlet end with out issue. I do have a main shut off so my irrigation line doesn't drain back out once I disconnect the pump. I also disconnect my pump each winter and store inside which is when I decided to do this overhaul given the pump was already disconnected. Thanks for watching @Shortys- I'm guilty at bad terminology.. "this guy" ha. Good point on the impellor removal. The brass cone wasn't necessary for this one. Thanks for watching!

My apologies as I hadn't checked back in on this video in what 2 years? My pump is still running just fine. As you can tell in the video I did a little touch up paint to the plumbing coming out of the top. It was looking all rusty and nasty when I brought it in to do the overhaul, but the black paint has held up pretty good so far! Although my timing is way off, here's some answers to your questions or comments - thanks again for watching!@Kosheluk - As you can tell I'm not good with using proper pump terminology. I like to use "this guy" or "that baby" when referring to parts - but that's me. Also, not sure about the short in the Smith motor -sorry.@Fred - I'm guessing by now you got it in there the right way - sorry for the delay. @5dognight1 - love the name! thanks for the comment! @Mark - correct, my mouth was probably moving too fast.. instead of saying a left hand thread I probably should have said turn to the left... good catch! @Chris - Thanks for the comment!

That was not a left hand thread. If it were, you would have had to turn it clockwise to take it off. That's a very important detail. If someone were to crank on that plastic impeller clockwise thinking it will eventually break free, they could break the impeller. Some pump impellers have plastic threads, not a metal insert, so may just crack when over tightened.

this guy is called a capicator. also you can sometimes stick a skinny long flat head in the fan blades to unscrew the impellor. that way you wont have to unscrew the cap or take the back cap off. also your dont need the water slinger its not necessary ( the rubber washer) the heat sink ( the brass cone) goes in before the ceramic seal and it would use i think a 200 or 201 seal and not the 100 seal.

hello, i installed a flowtec kit(fpp 5001) per your video, but could not visually tell which side of the rear seal you placed toward the elec. motor....i.e. shiny side ,chrome looking or black plastic side to rear? after fastening black plastic case together with clamp ,it leaks like a sieve. is there any way to lube the o-ring the front case slides over? suggestions thanks

My pump is leaking around the shaft. Unfortunately I have no idea what brand it is. I got it from lowes 4-5 years ago and it’s 1/2 hp. They don’t carry it anymore. Everybody told me it wouldn’t last a year but it’s a goer.

I am having some issues with my flotec......what was the reason you had to "overhaul" it? It SEEMS to build pressure BUT will not increase the pressure enough to lift my sprinklers......Thanks!

Did you have to close a main shutoff valve, or was there a separate one for the pump system? Also, mine makes a loud grinding sound the moment I turn it on. Any ideas?

Good morning I am a sprinkler contracter do u know how to fix a short in a a o. Smith electric motor becous that is the motor that is used on a lot of sprinkler pumps a internal short not a cap

you put a new seal kit that cost you 50.plus you payed for a brass cone that you didn't use plus you put a new impler and defiuser on a. pump that is not worth it now you will have good gpm and psi and more of a load on the motor and then that will burn out soon after it is cheaper to get a gt15 goulds pump instead of a plastic flow tech
