Currently applying for an acting senior role in an immunology laboratory as a biochemist. I haven't studied flow cytometry for many years and it is a core area that the role looks after, therefore this video has been a brilliant starting point to try and get my head around things so thank you very much! :-)

Hello! Thank you for this information! Its easy understandable! I have a few questions. What are the odds of flow cytometry? How likely is that device, that is based on flow cytometry, counts cells wrong? For example, to count lymphocytes into monocytes? In what cases device might be wrong (I am asking only in context of flow cytometry)? Could you direct me to the sources where I can read more about these questions? Thank you very much! :)

If parameters are not set well it will show wrong things

The side detector seems to focus on how long the cell is. The forward detector can only detect how wide the cell is. Gravity factor comes into play on this machine

Good question Shilpa. Fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) of live cells separates a population of cells into sub-populations based on fluorescent labeling. Sorting involves more complex mechanisms in the flow cytometer than a non-sorting analysis. Cells stained using fluorophore-conjugated antibodies can be separated from one another depending on which fluorophore they have been stained with. For example, a cell expressing one cell marker may be detected using an FITC-conjugated antibody that recognizes the marker, and another cell type expressing a different marker could be detected using a PE-conjugated antibody specific for that marker
