As a Gordie I first heard Flower of Scotland sung by The Corries when they performed live City Hall Newcastle 1975 . Their music was and still is absolutely Fantastic. When I hear the Bagpipes it stirs the blood , your heart beats loud and proud. I'm getting on now but I would love to go to the Edinburgh Tattoo to feel the Spirit of Scotland flowing through me. I read so many disagreeable comments about what constitutes a true claim to Scottish heritage, With all due respect to native Scots of today,(Who may with every right disagree with my humble opinion) , if you can hear the sound of the pipes, and not be moved to your very soul, even if your heritage, like mine, was passed on by my father,then we can safely assume a lack of Scots pride, and you have your own answer. My fathers funeral was conducted with due dignity shown by all, R.S.A., myself, etc. Amazing Grace, on pipes, as per his last wishes, however, reduced all to tears. I remember when my family would take me to a parade and I will hear the Bagpipes. Even at 8 years old I would get chills all over my body feel the bagpipes and drums deep in my soul.
