The last thing that he gave me was a purple pink flower being held by a wooden flower pot man, he got it from a craft fair the last time he was here, he said hold onto it as long as you can So every evening just as the sun went down I would take out my old watering can , and just like clockwork I would do the rounds paying a bit more attention to that flower pot man. I'd put it in the garden just out of the sun , I thought that would be the better place , he said that would be perfect until the winter comes, then sadness seemed to take over his face. He told me that the doctor's have collectively agreed, the x-rays and the scans have made it clear. The couldn't say exactly just how long I have , but i'm unlikely to see the new year. the summer that year seemed to just fly by before I knew it we were now in the fall . I noticed that the flower wasn't doing too well about the same time that I got the call, Still every evening as the sun went down I would take out my old watering can , I needed to keep that flower alive , I needed to save that flower pot man, I couldn't save that purple pink flower I saw the petals falling one by one, and as I watched the last petal fall I knew that he was gone.

This is quietly powerful so thank you Frank. I inherited an Asparagus Fern which was at least 40yrs old and had always thrived in a north-facing conservatory in my childhood home. I rescued it before it hit the skip and brought it to my own home, hoping for another 40yrs from the delicate little fern. Sadly, it didn’t last a year and it was surprisingly painful to have to acknowledge my own incompetence. So this beautiful song has struck a chord. And the guitar playing just wonderful as always ❤❤❤

Do you do this as a coping mechanism, a therapeutic release for these feelings? I have such admiration for your ability to express yourself and also capture the human condition so deeply and accurately. I’m sorry that you carry so much with you, and I truly hope that putting these out helps lighten the load on your back. You seem like a genuinely good man and you deserve to be happy. I hope outside of these glimpses into your pain, you are.
