I haven't read the manga, but from my understanding of the anime so far, both of them are not really either gender. They are true shapeshifters who pick a form at will, are immortal, and heal from virtually anything (I assume that there is a way to kill them, or the protagonists are gonna have a bad time).

@@jewelabyss I'm guessing that it's something specific (like fire or salt, given the vines that appeared from the wound), or maybe hitting the first 2 chakra points (root or sacral), as that's pretty much all that was left after the bandit struck the blonde one. The thing that I find strange about that scene is that the lower body regrew the head and the heart, rather than the upper body regrowing the lower body. That suggests that a vital point is the lower half, not the upper half where the human vital points are.

They still have their original gender though ,chaging gender is just one of their power as a tensen. The pink was original a female and the blonde was a male, only those who can change their gender can had title as tensen, those who cant will be mark as failure.

Shonen girls usually get the short end of the chacaterization stick, but Sagiri is pretty good. I love how she's embracing this duality of the traditional role of a woman in those times while also kicking ass as a warrior. Looking forward to more of her and her relationship with Gabimaru, I can see these 2 becoming bros as they learn to trust each other more. It's also refresing that thre's no forced romance between the 2 main characters. Gabi is a wife man to the core

For those interested in reading along with the original Hell’s Paradise manga, this episode adapted the remainder of chapter 16 (5/17 pages), all of chapters 17 and 18, the first third or so of chapter 19 (6/19 pages), the last few pages of chapter 21 (4/19 pages), and the majority of chapter 22 (16/19 pages).

The reason they didn't kill the Aza brother's is because if they did then they would not have been able to use their stronger than usual life force to create tan. That pit is used to extract it from living people that the tensen see as strong enough to provide good or okay stalk of life force its like when you go into a super market and try to pick out the freshest and healthiest fruits and vegetable's for yourself or the best quality meat
