I liked the higher pitched sound of the 44's, but without tailpipes I think the sound isn't accurate or as good as it can be.

Definitely 40s. 44s were too high pitched 40s were a little quieter but better sound.

I have the 350 in my 90' and I'm running the super 40 with hedman headers. I love the sounds.

The original 40 series is king. No mistaking that sound. Always turned heads and sounded like a cammed motor with a deep echoing hollow tone.

I Just had Flow master "original series" installed on 5.7 Hemi......I highly recommend! extremely happy with the tones...granted, motor has only 575 miles new...not sure if I can decide based on this video....I think a quality mic. might give a more accurate sound

I love my Gibson on my Silverado 1500, it has a nice deep tone to it but not too loud. Cool Air Intake and Exhaust mods were the best mods for it, bar none!

I've got a 95 1500 with a 350, single 44 downturn, no cat or resonator. love it. sets off car alarms 200 feet away.

what setup can i have where there is none of that sound as you let off the gas? i like when you rev it up, just hate the backsucking sound or whatever you would call it.

The engine specs are in the video description. Good compression, ideal quench/squish height, full roller valve train and a balanced rotating assembly make for a quick reving engine.

What kind of fuel do you run in your engine? Pump gas? or do you have to use higher octane due to the compression? I am wondering if the .032 quench gives you a tight enough clearance that allows good turbulence during squish mixing the fuel up for a better mixture allowing pump gas??? I'm doing a very similar build as you so I am curious as to how the quench is working out on running fuel choice. Race fuel is expensive! and i want to be able to have the convenience of pulling up to any gas station lol.

Something else to, regardless of the fact these are an all metal muffler they DO have a break in period. I dont understand it but having run different Flowmasters on several different vehicles I have noticed after a few hundred miles they start to sound better and around 1000 miles they are louder and deeper than when you first put the muffler on. Not sure why, but it has happened EVERY time I have used Flowmasters. I have used them on 4 or 5 different vehicles now and every time they have sounded louder and deeper after around 1000 miles have been put on the vehicle after the muffler was installed. That said, my point is these mufflers will sound better after they are broke in so slapping them on the truck revving it a few times then swapping them is not going to give you a true feel for what they are going to sound like in a few months.

I have the Super 44s on my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 single cab pick-up and they sound wicked awesome!

Given the choice between the two, from what I can hear on the video would be the 40s... personally though I would have to say 50s or 70 big block IIs..... what cam are you running? Throttle response sounds great.

I love the rumble of flowmaster but I'd run open headers just because I love really really loud exhaust !!!! 😁😁😁😁

with the engine build and details you gave? what does she feel like? any regrets? I have a weak 305 and 355 in a Silverado and a Camaro...and was let down with my 355...I don't have gears yet...might wake it up...but I think my next 2 might be 406s with 430hp and 530 ft lbs all below 5000 rpm.... I am going to try gears on my 355 Camaro first and maybe a great set of heads but ...if fails to impress ..totally going 406 or destroked 400 and rev to the moon

to me they both sound good but id say the 40's. how did you get around the computer on your silverado? i want to build my engine but i have been told that the computer will just limit it back down.

Once you put the tail pipes on it will sound way different , I find the regular 40 series or the super 44 would be better.

If there is anything thing I have learned about exhaust tone is tht it's highly personal preference. If you want your Elky to have a deeper 'Big Block' sound go with the SUPER 40's (Not 40's), if you want an edgier & more 'high reving' sound go with the Super 44's. I personally would go with Super 40's. However, the exhaust note will change depending on how many mods the engine and car has or doesn't have...

I've got 44 on my 3.9 dak. Unless you hear it next to the 5.2 or if I get it into the upper revs people think I have a V8. I love it and it's going to stay that way until I get the time and money to do a 4bt swap.

@SLUTT559. In my experience, High compression, Camshaft & Valve timing events, Big tube headers, and big exhaust pipe size have the largest effect on exhaust volume. Not necessarily how much displacement an engine has.

I put on my 02 Silverado 44s ' I still think it's the best on 5.3 vortec engine. Even I still think I'm going to buy 2 for my new Silverado :)

44's sound more aggressive.

Super44 has a more agressive idle tone that I liked, but then the reving sound just killed it... like something was off. For that I liked the Super40 better.

I miss this truck btw...

The Summit street strip, as well as the Thrush welded mufflers, are copies of the Flowmaster 40. Not the Super 40. The difference being the muffler case width, the FM 40 and copies have a 4" thick case. The Super 40 has a 5" thick case and different baffle configuration inside. The Summit mufflers & Thrush mufflers are a good inexpensive alternative to the Flowmaster 40. Cheers.

super 44 sounded the best to my ears. thats what im using on my 01 s10 extreme with a 383

@90350Chevy. I mostly use the Super 40's, to me it sounds Deeper, Throatier and "Bigger" than the Super 44's Search my vids for "Mykk's 2004 Silverado, build video"...at around 4:30 in that vid you can hear the Super 40's on the street.

It's all about personal preference. Personally, I prefer Magnaflow...they don't sound like a coffee can.

i put 40 series on my dakota an its deeper but then i tried 44's an it was louder with more crackel....sepecially when i down shift

I like that sound on LSx powered cars, for trucks it's a bit raspy for my taste. On this GenII SBC a catalytic converter wouldn't last very long with the carb and the amount of fuel it throws at it.

I’ve had both the 40 and now I have 44 the 44 is a deeper and louder tone I like it but the 40 is also a nice noise it revs higher but not louder

Next time use old Mopars to do your test, as for me it’s super 44 for my high compression 383 Roadrunner!

They both sound good, the super 40's sound more like a big block, have you tried the thrush welded chamber 3". my sister has them on her 04 mustang 4.6 and it sounds pretty bad ass. also they only cost $30 each

If you otherwise like the super 10, but need just a bit of quietness, then the Super44; if you look at the 10 & the 44, it has the same delta plate arrangement in the 1st chamber. The Super 44 is just a Super 10 with an added chamber.
