Because most expensive watches require you wear them to charge or have mechanical movements that require you set them monthly to remain accurate. A timex watch keeps more accurate time than a Rolex. He was checking its accuracy, a Rolex can lose or gain about 5 seconds a day so if you never adjust it after a month it will be off by a couple minutes.
