What a rare. rare opportunity to see Floyd Sparring. Usually, videos like this aren't released, or allowed to be filmed. Floyd's Camp kicks everybody out before Floyd Spars.

Man hard to believe he is gone. I meet this dude in Houston at the Savannah Boxing Gym when he was an amateur. Let me tell you the dude was a student of the boxing game he was deep in it. I could tell he was in love with boxing I even saw him at the Barnes and Noble getting a autograph from De LaHoya at his book signing looked like he had a bright future in boxing as he started with Top Rank getting some fights under his belt Cheers Man.

Agreed. I've done reflex tests and I am pretty much the same as i was 5 years ago. 5 years ago I barely started boxing and I would could anticipate punches. That comes with experience and knowing/anticipating slight movements.

A lot of people seem to forget Floyd's ability to make mid-fight adjustments. Look at the Judah fight for example. Judah was a very tricky south-paw.Zab had Floyd confused for a few rounds, till Floyd neutralised him. i was actually rooting for Zab in that fight.

I love how floyd walks down his opponent in this sparring session... He don't give his oppopents any time to breath or set up any kind of offense... And even with him coming forward you still cant land any solid shots, because of his tight shell defense. And his straight right is so pin point.

Floyd has cat like reflexes and is very adaptable. The best game plan I always thought was to be relentless against floyd. Leave everything in the ring and go for a knockout. This leaves for a lot of countering opportunities and it's very likely that the fighter would get KOd by floyd's timing. But I think it's the best chance. Trying to box with floyd or counter him is a recipe for disaster. Floyd is going to counter and time your ass all night. Fighting relentlessly is the best shot at catching floyd but also leaves you open to get KOd.

How about you actually learn how to box as technical as Mayweather himself to beat him? I hear nobody coming up with that solution, even the pro trainers don't consider that an option. And the reason for that is because in the back of their minds they know that it's nearly impossible to fight like mayweather unless it's naturaly gifted. So then they automatically start thinking of other ways to defeat him like making it a dirty or intense fight. But when you do that you're admitting at the same time that he's the smarter fighter and you are making your chance of winning a lottery.
@rlm5657
@rlm5657 5 жыл бұрын
You are 100 percent correct. In the 80's, many fighters would have ran across the ring on Floyd and would not have been afraid of getting knocked out. (go down swinging) Today, when a fighter gets too far behind they go into survivor mode.

floyd sees it all. he looks at the feet of the opponent which a lot of boxers dont do. BUT the most beatiful thing in boxing is when this man fights inside. its crazy to watch him be that close to the opponent and NOT GET HIT. with no space between the two and this dude ducks, slips, rolls, blocks AND counters. its fuckin awesome

true. Hopkins is an all time great and he had only 42 fights by the time he turned 35 as well. I like both Pac and Floyd's resumes, I just think Floyd retiring for 2 years when he was at the top of his game hurt him along with Pacquiao's catchweight championship titles

I completely agree with you, altough Cotto is more a pure boxer than a brawler but he definitely has to put pressure on Floyd and go hard to that body. Instead of headhunting he has to force Floyd against the ropes and unleash hook after hook, uppercuts, etc to Floyd's midsection..it's going to be an interesting match, for sure.

Hey man, well...I missed the Quintana bout, but I think that Canelo vs Mosley was interesting but I was really sad to see Sugar Shane so badly beaten...he has to retire now unless he wants to follow Ali's footsteps. As for PFB vs Cotto, I really enjoyed the fight, Cotto really took the fight to Floyd and for a moment I thought he was going to connect the KO punch when he had Floyd against the ropes...one thing I didn't understand was why Cotto stood there and ate those huge right punches...

You do have a point. The problem is no one is accurate enough with the smarts and the endurance/stamina to beat floyd. Not even Sergio. As a matter of fact, a lot of sergio's opponents lose because they can't keep up with his style. His last 2 fights he was losing most of the first 8 to 9 rounds.

I think you got the last part wrong. Your whole post is debatable to be honest. A "skill" is aquired through hard work, which is what Floyd prides himself on. Natural talent is something you're born with, like Tyson KO power or Roy Jones athleticism. I'm curious as to what you imply when you say substance? Floyd's boxing IQ is remarkable. You might even change your tone if you watched his earlier fights at featherweight. He's come to rely on his defense more at this stage, and it works for him.

i agree... There are 2 things that gives floyd trouble.... A great Jab (remember when he fought an old oscar) and hard nose, in your face pressure... (remember when he fought hatton, floyd was out of breath after the fight and gave him tremendous respect, AND when he fought zab judah. Really zab knocked floyd down.) BUT, Cotto doesnt jab...and his reach is shorter than floyds. I think Cotto can apply pressure though. What do you think?

Pac characterize the traits of Judah (southpaw), Emmanuel Augustus (odd angles), Cotto & Castillo (pressure fighter). 4 fighters we had seen Floyd had a hard time outclassing completely, what more if it will be 4 in 1 in Pac. Add to this that Pac had the same match speed w/Floyd, w/fast hands, w/good inventory in the business who can reply 2 you via 3 to 7 punch combo w/power at both hands, athletic, not afraid to get hit, had a durable chin, good stamina & a TRUE FIGHTER. Floyd gon get rocked
