The goal of this particular activity is to develop student confidence in and emotional awareness with intonation in English 👩🏻‍🎓🧑‍🎓👨🏽‍🎓
I just love watching my students develop their emotional awareness and their subtle manners in these kind of speaking activities! They are building skills that will come in really useful!
Now this makes for a great activity in lots of different ways! You can use it as
1️⃣ a warmup activity
2️⃣ an intonation practice
3️⃣ a guessing games
4️⃣ a fluency speaking activity with spontaneous reactions
5️⃣ a roleplay focusing on soft skills and emotional awareness
There are a collection of phrases for this activity on our website for teachers 👩🏻‍🏫🧑🏼‍🏫👨🏾‍🏫
Students can practice with the standard set of emotions there, or with other sets of emotions (you’ll find them easily by searching for “adjectives” or “emotions” on our website)
Model and practice with your students. This type of activity is really useful for learners to develop their communication skills in English 🌞
They listen to intonation and try to guess what the other student is portraying. They should then react appropriately given the context they set and the intonation used. That will lead them to very natural and very useful speaking practice in roleplays 👍
