Thanks for the shoutout, Ira. Glad you found the activity useful. And I totally see what you mean. The human mind can be a true and fierce ally, but it can also be a cruel vilain. I really try to put a healthy dose of positivity and genuine honesty in my sessions with learners. There is so much we can do for a brighter, lighter approach to life in language lessons. That is really one of the main reasons why I absolutely love our profession :) Have you seen my videos on sugarcoating, motivating messaging, and other soft skills? Great positive activities :)

@@ResourceEducation Indeed, this is what we all need - less theory, more practice. Right before I watched your video I'd been searching for some ideas online to practise this topic. The thing is that my students know the rules perfectly. But every time when it comes to working on fluency they end up making lots of mistakes. As if they've never faced these rules before. Your activity can help us conquer the articles naturally, giving the best context needed.

@ResourceEducation4 жыл бұрын
Nina Nedelyay, you’ll find way more of these cards there: convince, shock, brag. Various levels and collections. In the search filters, simply select “fluency” in “skill” filter, or “convince” in the “target language” filter for instance. You will find plenty of other fluency activities actually! Hope that helps :)

You are doing great work! Do the pupils have a picture in front of them when the are doing "short answers" activity? Thank you!
@ResourceEducation4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! They do not generally have a picture in front of them. You can increase or decrease the difficulty by letting them see the questions that they are answering, though. One reason I use short answer races is to improve listening skills. If they are nervous in the beginning, I allow them two types practice runs: first, one in which they can see the questions, and second only relying on their listening.
@nikpetrov46184 жыл бұрын
It's awesome. I bought Speak English Fluently, Tense Build, and Short Answer Races yesterday. Thank for your work.
@ResourceEducation4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, Nik. It's always rewarding to hear your work is appreciated. We put a great deal of thought into the concepts of the Fluency cards: getting students to react spontaneously helps students develop their knowledge of English into practical skills and gives them the ability to adapt to the real world using the skills they have. We've recently developed a new way of using the same cards you already have. Try this scenario: student A takes a card and reads it to student B, student B then reacts by questioning everything student A says. It works with all 3 collections of Fluency cards: Convince, Shock and Brag. It goes a bit like this. Say student A starts the dialog with a Shock card "Did you take my pen?" Student B can react with "Pen? What do you mean? What's a pen?" That will probably be greeted with a "A pen? Come on. That's a common tool people use to write things down." Student B can continue by questioning what a tool is or what writing means and the conversation goes on in this manner. As in Convince, Shock and Tense Build, you'll see that students react spontaneously at this unusual dialog and so you can measure what your students properly master and what they still need to build reflexes in. We call this new version of the Fluency cards "Idiot". It's really engaging and very useful in class. Hope that comes in handy, Nik.

I think flexibility is based on the systematic vision of grammar and language. if you are to choose the appropriate form you should be aware of the possible options. I mean it is a step-by-step process. I agree with the definition of the translation as the filter. thank you for the video
