As promised, here's my new mix! Liquid drum and bass has been one of my favorite genres for years now so it was about time to make my first long dnb mix for the channel. The mix mainly concentrates on the same melodic and smooth side of drum and bass I usually feature on the channel. Not much else to say about it other than I love all the tracks, some of them were found in the early days of the channel while others were found just recently but will be played over and over again.

7 years later and this is still my most listened drum n bass mix. While progress-Raiding in WoW, for the whole time I had it on repeat for nearly 8h a day, still counting. Holy-moly this aged well.

What amazes me about drum and bass is how such intense drumming can be so relaxing... any ideas how it tricks the mind like that?

Liquid DnB is a fusion of opposites. The frenetic pace of the drums is balanced by the long phrasing and progressions of the melodic elements. Aggressive music, as a whole, usually uses short phrases, especially if you look at the bass, but liquid DnB wraps you up by using melodic parts on longer loops that change slowly and progress. Another feature of liquid is that the bass almost always has a lowpass filter that cuts it off around 120Hz or so, so you don't get the higher squelchier sounds like you hear in dubstep. This gets the bass 'out of the way' of the other, more melodic elements, so you can hear them. Liquid typically also uses long, sustained bass tones, which is generally more relaxing, instead of more aggressive stuff like electro that uses a chopped up bass line. So yeah, the end product is an evolving soundscape that relaxes, but a quick rhythm line that motivates. Either component without the other would have only part of the effect. Pretty freakin' amazing.

i stumbled up on this track i´d say 2 years ago.. it got me comfy in some very sad situations, pretty dark times.. it was a shimering light at the end of that never ending tunnel, at least that´s what it felt like for me, i had to go through.. also, it took me to the moon and back 2x, everytime i put it on my headphones, witout a ticket for the bus.. it left me there to fly away in my head, in my mind.. it took me back, to stay in reality.. i got over most of my deamons at this point.. this track is just a wonderfull artwork and i am very glad i found it!

Almost every DNB song has the same generic beat. And most of these songs have dim melody and they're all mixed so it's almost impossible to identify them individually

Putting the chair on the other side of the tree in this picture is ingenius from a compositional point of view - it implies rotational symmetry, which draws the viewer in even further to the island tree as the focal point.
